Everyone's latest acquisitions!

Kershaws don't get a lot of love around here but I've got a pretty large collection of "vintage" Kershaws (mid/late 1970's to pre 2k) and I just scored this unique LNIB Nakamura (1480)

The last pic is off the Net because I can take a decent close up of the bolster & blade.

---------------------------------------------

Here's a description of the knife if you've never heard of or seen it before:

The Nakamura’s (Model 1480) bolster features 19 layers of steel and vari-colored copper, expertly worked so that the colors are exposed in intricate patterns. No dyes or other coloring process is used to produce the pattern—it’s all done through the art of the metalsmith. There are ten layers of steel, five layers of the familiar copper-colored copper, and four layers of a brass-colored copper. The combined effect is simply stunning.

The unique bolster is a fitting accent for Kershaw’s super-hard blade.

The 2 7/8-in. blade features a core of VG-10 “Super Steel” layered with 420J2 stainless. VG-10 is composed of Cobalt, Molybdenum, Vanadium, and other metals. Harder than other quality steels, it takes and holds an incredibly sharp edge longer. The combined VG-10 and 420J2 earns this blade a Rockwell Hardness rating of 57-59.

Yet even the handle on the new Nakamura is special. It’s shaped from exotic quince wood. Quince features complex color variations that blend wood tones ranging from dark espresso to warm caramel, which handsomely accents the tri-colored bolster. The Nakamura is designed to get attention. But it backs up its good looks with the quality and top performance knife users have come to expect from Kershaw. Old discontinued model that is hard to find. Brand new in box with paperwork.

Features:
Blade Material: Clad VG-10 Stainless Steel
Handle Material: Quince Burl Wood
Blade Length: 2-7/8
Closed Length: 3-7/8
Weight: 3.2 oz

---------------------------------------------

You can tell how old the Nakamura is by the reference to VG10 as a "Super Steel" in the description. LOL! ;)

The only other vintage Kershaw that I'm looking for now is the wood (quince) handled variation of the Splinter (1460) complete w/the box & insert.

HMU if you've got one you'd like to sell or know where I can get one. Thanks!

My third Cold Steel purchase landed-today: the Voyager XL.

Absolute perfect-specimen. Big warblade, yet surprisingly light.

The XL Voyager dwarfs the Recon 1's footprint.

Another size-comparison, with the SR1 and the Recon. The Voyager has a lot of reach, and super-sharp AUS-10 from the box.

After some thought, I have decided to keep my new sod buster jr.

Scratches on the blade from factory , slight back and forth play(very slight) and off centering were my initial concerns. Otherwise the knife is a real beauty in hand and I love how snappy it is on open and close. Too bad Case couldn't deliver on the QC component. I plan to use it hard and can't bear to send it back and be out the additional shipping costs on a relatively low dollar knife. I also am just really enjoying it for whatever reason. Shame on you case for being capable and not delivering on that capability.

Still here it is....
