I find it interesting that I can actully see some of this. Not complaining in any way what so ever.

Me either! I wish I had some of that black glue used back then...I tried some of the Superglue; it didn't work too well...in fack, when it dried it warped the crap out of the liners...bent them right back... :(

Now I am trying to see some sort of time frame...

That would be interesting to pin down... :)

Final results.... Sorted through 18 or 20 no dot 110 and 112's. All had the adhesive.

10 or 13 with dots and no adhesive. ( I loose count). And of course none of the newer ones.

Earl hit on it earlier and I looked for it. Seems that the adhesive was also used as a filler for loose fitting scales. Was a varying degree to the amount (width) used.

Looks like somewhere around 73-74 the fit of the handles, scales, wood, whatever, became more precise. Or,,, in that time frame Buck went to the treated handle materials to be able to get more precise fit.

Whew... I figure in the end, all this got me was a couple of better organized drawers. hehe... note I didnt say clean drawers....

Someone else can put together a timeline on different woods... One of this herd sure is light tan in color, more so than any of the rest... What does this segua (sp) look like...

cost of a small herd of knives....who the h knows...
an afternoon playing with them.....yeah....you get the idea....

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I wish I could add some relevant historical data in regards to the use of glue, but I don't have any. I can say that one time, years ago, I heard a group of old timers at the plant talking about glueing those inlays on and having the stuff "up to their elbows" at the end of each day. As strong as the goop is, I wonder what they used to wash up with?

I decided I'm going to use Gorilla Snot on the next scale I glue on... ;)

What I'd really like to use is DevCon Flexane 94...but I don't know if they make it anymore, and the pack I have here is left over from 1981... :(

Have you ever used the monkey glue? That stuff expands like crazy as it drys.
I'm not too impressed with its holding power on some things. But seems to work on my tennies when I have a blowout. But gotta take my trusty Buck and trim it all up from all that expansion. That is if I can get the clamps off.,,, Yeah, I tend to use too much.

No, haven't used it yet...Is it the stuff they always have in old-timey hardware stores with all kinds of stuff stuck to a Nehi soda bottle??? That looks like the stuff to use! :D

I used the DevCon Flaxane before; it's basically an epoxy rubber...takes 24 hours to dry; can be buffed (I mean really coarse sanded when I say "buffed"; like a shoe repairman buffs when he puts new heels/soles on your shoes/boots), sawed, molded (when still liquid), and it lasts just as long as any rubber product does... :)

I just wish I worked for a plant that could afford to buy it for me... :o

I was talking about the Gorilla stuff... Works ok for some things. Do some compairson,,, there are other names out there that is the same stuff. cheaper...

...The wife dropped a crystal thingamajig on the toilet tank top last year and broke the darn thing in half. Cracked it right through. Ol' cheapo...(me)...decided to glue it back together myself...LMAO...Well it worked. I used that Gorilla glue stuff. I dropped that tank top a month or so ago when putting in a new tank valve and broke it again. It broke in 4 or 5 pieces...The Gorilla glued crack was still holding tight and firm after I dropped it from the height of the vanity top unto a tiled floor...Good stuff that Gorilla "snot"...

ROTFLMAO Darryl!!!!
I swear by that stuff.
My old Harley Dyna, I rode it to Sturgis in 2004. The rubber pads in the forward controls wound up MIA somewhere in Wyoming or Utah. I took a pair of flip-flops and cut out the pattern to the metal pegs, "snotted" them on and they were still there last month when I got rid of the scoot for my new one.
All my brothers would call it the "snot scoot". I used it to put back on emblems, molding, you name it. It rocks.
Goose.

...Gooser...I guess you could almost eliminate fasteners entirely on a scoot if ya used enough Gorilla "phlegm":barf:  ...LMAO...Never thought of using it on scales...It does expand when ya use it though...maybe if ya really lay it on thin and smooth...hmmm...might have to give it a try...

Old Thread Alert!!!!!

Lot of new guys here that may have missed some of the old discussions about glued on handles so thought I would revive this.

Good! I see there's a bunch of old pics in my PhotoBucket albums that I can get rid of! Stuff from years ago...No one looks at anymore...Buried threads...I finally cleaned out my Bladeforums attachments too! :o

Slash & burn! :D

I started to delete some of mine also, but remembered they were linked here. I guess the bucket won't overflow.

Doesn't matter. No one uses the Search button anymore. Too much effort. :(

If it's more than one month old, it's forgotten forever. I've already forgotten last week...

Tell me the truth: Do you recall what thread this knife appeared in???
