Believe me, I'd much rather be using a press. I thought about getting one of those shop presses from harbor freight and using just to set welds on San Mai. I know they pretty much shouldn't even be considered for Damascus, for multiple reasons. I thought, for setting the welds on dry welded San Mai billets wouldn't be too much to accomplish with one. I know ram speed is pretty slow on them so I might need to use some dies with larger plates. That way I could smash it together in one or two goes.
