Excessive?

At least 1 hidden (didn’t want a Intruder find my knife and use it against me), but easy to grab knife at every Place and in every Room.

Bye Kurt

Half the time my side of the bedroom looks like a knife store. Although I do admit to an Al Mar SERE hanging by a web belt on the headboard. Now whats cluttering up the top of my dresser is a whole other thread.

I don't like the idea of leaving any firearm unprotected in a "ready" state. There's always the chance that you won't be the one picking it up...

I keep my shotgun loaded, but without a round in the chamber, and with a self-lighting digital lock on the trigger. I can remove the lock and chamber a round in less than two seconds. (And I change the battery often enough to make certain it won't be low when I need it.)

I've hard that advice too, but with the suggestion that you put a knife in both the attacker's hands. That way your story can't be disproven if the attacker turns out to be left handed.

Also, I don't think I'd go so far as to cut myself. Proving that your attacker was prepared to use deadly force should be enough.

Next to my bed, I usually have a .223 with a 30 round magazine, a Glock 23, and a Wakazashi sword. This is a second line of defense past a secure bedroom door and 95 lb dog.

Self Defence is one of those things people have a hard time appreciating until a self defence situation arises. I don't know of a polite way of saying this, so I'll jsut say it.

If someone invades your home armed with a knife or stick or something and decides to have their way with your wife, your wife would be very much appreciative if you had the materials and the skills to stop the attackers! Thus, you need a knife by your bedside, just in case. I mean, suppose someone comes in with a weapon and you have none? What are your options? Boldly challenge the attacker and get cut or shot dead, or watch your wife get attacked. Neither option would sound good to you OR your wife! Thus, the knife beside the bed.

Try explaining this point to your wife by asking her if she'd like you to stop someone if that person ever tries to attack your wife. If she says yes, tell her that thatsa what the knife is for. Then she'll (hopefully) get the connection. Good luck.

Is it just me? I just think that sleeping with a knife under you pillow serves no use. Unless there's a hitman sneeking up to strangle you in your sleep or some dark mysterious ninja assasins are after you, what will a knife do for you? By the time you wake up and realized there was someone in your bedroom, it would probably be too late. Your reaction time would be slow anyway. Now if you wake up in the middle of the night and hear someone lurking on your property or inside your house, then reach for the firearm and get ready to pop a cap in the poor fool who dares to trespass. I suppose some people feel comfort in sleeping with a knife tucked under their pillow, but to me it seems like paranoia. To each, his own I guess.

just looked at my bed and realized there are only two knives

a folder with 6" blade + a fixed with 1,5 feet blade.

You say paranoia as if it were a bad thing.

If you expect to first wake up with an intruder already in your room, having a weapon nearby probably won't help much. If you anticipate having a bit more warning, which I think most of us do, having a weapon handy makes excellent sense.

I think it depends on both your perspective and your physical arrangements. My bedroom is upstairs, my house has an alarm system, and I have three large dogs. The chances of anyone getting into the room without my knowing it are very slim. By the time anyone gets to my room I expect to greet them from behind cover over the barrel of my shotgun.

H+K USP 45ACP loaded with +P fragmenting Glassiers (over pen is not a problem) and a 12 gauge loaded with #8 shot on my side and a S+W 686 357mag loaded with +P Glassiers on my wifes side.

No a knife is not paranoid.

And yes all the firearms are kept in rapid access safes. Did I mention the combat night sights on the H+K?

We all carry knives on a daily basis, why not have one close at night?

My side of the bed:
1. HK USP .40 with HK Universal Tactical Light, stoked with Mag-safes and a spare mag full of 135 grain Cor-bons.
2. HK Benelli Super 90 Tactical with Tritium Ghost Rings, fitted with Laser Products forearm, loaded with #4 Buck.
3. A Microtech CTII for opening letters and such.
4. A rather large female PitBull sleeping at my feet.
5. Cordless phone
My Wife's side of the bed
1. Glock 23 with 2 high cap mags full of Cor-bon 135's.
2. A SureFire 6Z
3. A healthy alert Border Collie sleeping at her feet.
4. Cell phone

We also have a monitor that toggles between 6 seperate outdoor video cameras that gives us clear views of the perimeter of our property even in total darkness.
Overkill? Absolutely. And I sleep like a baby every single night.

Guess who has to read each single answer? Yes, you are right!

I don't sleep with any sissy commando knife next to my bed...

(I'm not sure how to use one.)

Sig Sauer in .40 makes my wife think I'm paranoid. I sleep really well!

Thats all!! Don't worry about it! I do not go to sleep without my Glock. Before the Glock, it was a 1911, and before that it was the Smith model 28. My 870 riot shotgun is loaded up slug, buckshot, slug, etc., I have a Galco jackass rig ready to go with two extra clips, and usually clip my Spyderco Police to it at the end of my day. Which rests on my side of the bed. My parents raised me and my two older brothers up in the sticks, and we all slept with guns close by and still do. I think I probably speak for many of the others here, when I say-"that ain't $@!%" Next time she rags on you about your knife, tell her your thinking of buying a GLOCK! Or just let her read the post, and she will think you are normal. I know I'm rambling, but this one got me fired up, and I haven't even read the other replies yet. Good luck.

I'll give you that one Jeff, but I keep it loaded with hydroshocks. Should keep the wolf at bay...

LOL Eric! Remind me not to break into YOUR place.

Dawl has a "Grock" next to her pillow huh? Niiiice.

Personally, I sleep with a Beretta 92F (loaded with Black Talon) under my pillow. All my knives are probably too far away to get to in a "need" situation.

I not only have a knife or two by my bed, but a side by side .20 gauge near at hand. i realize I am not as high tech as the Glock toters,( and I like to shoot Glocks) but I'm just an old country boy. And one thing about the old double--it never jams and you don't need night sights.

well heres what i have - glock 23 + a glock 27, both loaded w/cor-bon, on the bed side table - a Seecamp .32 between mattress and boxsprings - a steyr AUG under the bed - wife carries SIG P239 357SIG, and a Colt Det Spec, and a Remington 1100 12g by Scattergun Tech under her side - she carries a MicroTech SOCOM and a mini SOCOM, she loves MT, and i , of course, have the SIFU if all else fails.....and of course alarms, etc.

and sleep like a baby at night too may i add

If i dont sleep with every new toy i get
my wife thinks i dont like it.
NEXT TO THE BED Desert Eagle
You dont even have to leave the bed to hit him at the front door!
