Exhorbitant Shipping

So I'm sure we've all come across sellers who overcharge for shipping. It's not uncommon and doesn't usually bother me too much if it's not unreasonably over cost. Anyways I recently came across a knife selling on a common auction site (won't post any links as I recently learned this is against BF rules). The bidding is starting at $0.99. I thought I'd make a bid as no one has bid yet. Then I looked at the shipping charges. The seller is asking $580.00 for shipping. Basically he's covering the whole cost of the sale in shipping alone. Haven't seen this maneuver before, pretty much a _____ move IMO. Thoughts?

Yea ive seen it, its to insure they get their money. They start the bidding @ .99 to attract customers who usually don't pay attention to the shipping until its too late.

you can cancel your bid.

Don't like the price? Don't buy the item. Simple.

You should read the rules here (and anywhere you present yourself). Your vulgarity in this section of the forum is uncalled for.

On places like E-bay they do it to beat E-bay out of their fees. You do not pay fees on shipping. I think it's a bs move....................

@craytab
I understand pricing. It's just not obvious in the price that you are actually paying for the item through shipping costs, that's my point.
Well I'm not in the habit of always reading rules in advance, I usually just learn as I go. But thanks for the advice. And I edited the vulgarity, even though I consider it warranted.

Good on you for changing that but I have still been warned for doing a similar thing to what you have done with the characters. I would just use some other choice vocabulary to illustrate your point. Warranted vulgarity can get you in trouble on this part of the forum.

I make sure to read the rules where ever I go. I may not follow them but I know what they are. I carry a gun every day and I make damn sure I know where it is legal to carry it or not.

As for how price works...addition is a simple thing.

The days of getting easy outrageously cheap deals are long gone for the most part. The internet stopped that for the most part many years ago. Expect to pay market prices or keep seeing the hosery and seller hustling you are complaining about.

For the naysayers sure sometimes deals pop up but not so much by lack of knowledge of prices its more laziness to research prices or folks desperate for a quick turn around or folks with lots of disposable income that arent as determined to get full market value.

This is incorrect. Ebay charges a percentage of the money you collect for shipping, and have for over a year. The only way to escape it is to choose to offer free shipping, and try to start your initial bid on the item higher to make up the cost.

I always thought they did that so if there was a problem with the item they would only have to refund a small amount of money and not refund the shipping.

I stand corrected.....................I no longer sell on E-bay.

That "used" to be a reason, I am sure there is one beneficial to the seller

If a person can't figure out the final cost of an item (price+shipping+tax or what have you), they ought not be out wasting money.

Better, yet: report them for exhorbitant shipping.
eBoy knows it's a scam and costs them money, and they don't allow it.

I'm sure if you did you would have bad feedback. I posted first on your selling post to buy silver and you ignored me and sold it to someone else. That's not bad enough. You never responded to my emails or visitor messages. I wouldn't trust this man for a hot second.

Read GB&U...........................................

I guess the good thing is that you aren't forced to buy ebay items, or even look at them if you don't want to. I wouldn't use ebay for anything unless it was as a last resort, even then I wouldn't have very high expectations.

I don't know why you even felt the need to make a thread about it honestly.
