Exotic Ammo

I seem to remember that a similar dud round cost Ross Seyfried an IPSC World Championship back in the 80s. It had a primer etc., but no flash hole.
I'm kind of surprised that Ross Seyfried didn't have a special contract with his favorite ammunition manufacturer, that included extra oversight and better quality control for ammunition intended for him.

I only discovered the round missing its primer and flash hole in an anal retentive moment, when I decided to see how many bullets a 100-round 9mm Winchester "Value Pack" actually holds. (The answer is usually 101 to 104....) I have a couple/few empty 50-bullet trays, and I'd "count" the bullets by filling those 50-round trays with bullets, nose down.

My life might depend on not loading my pistol with a squib or dud bullet, so, I'm glad that I sometimes examine boxes of bullets more closely than would be "normal."

7 over, 7 down . . . is that one of those Cyclone rounds?

No that is a ABC CU2 all copper round...the hollow point runs almost to the bottom of the round.

4 down 2 over is a ULTRA RARE 45acp Abeerdeen "cyclone" tubular round built by guilford and used by the U.S Goverment.

These round are the BEST pistol AP round for soft armor...they are next to immpossible to find and if you do the will run about 50.00 per round.

Seriously, Al -- you really need to write a book about exotic small arms ammo. If you use color photos of the side, nose, and headstamp of each round -- with a detailed description of the history, intended function, and actual effectiveness of each -- it would sell quite well. Sure, it'll mean spending an hour or two a day for several months, taking photos, typing descriptions, and editing/revising your work, but it'll be worth it. You wouldn't have to settle for a small specialty press (with small advances & short run printings) either. You really ought to consider this, as such a book does not exist, there is a need (or at least want) for this book, and it would definitely be marketable -- even to those who are not firearms enthusiasts.

That is a VELEX explosive round made in the early 1970s

The guy who made them also made valet,ex-ammo explosive rounds and the cyanide filled LAST GASP rounds. He also made the original auto spike pens "the inner city sportsman pencil "and a cyanide spray and some other weird items.

The LAST GASP rounds actually were produced and marketed to the general public??? Poisoned ammunition wasn't illegal in the 70s?

"Cyanide spray"??? Tell me that was some highly diluted solution, rather than hydrocyanic acid in an aerosol spray can!

The book is a great idea but it should be written by someone with a much larger collection than me...for example I know a person that has over 2000 9mm rounds and they are all differnt.

The last gasp was kind of sold to the general public...the package was wild IT HAD a dude grabbing at his throat...the last gasp:D

I think it was Hydrogen cyanide in a aerosol and came with a amynitrite ampule that you inhaled before you used the spray to help if you inhaled some your self....INSANE any way you look at it IMO.

All you need is access to his collection and a digital camera. If he's more knowledgable than you regarding the various rounds, make him a co-author and split the advance & royalties.

Wow . . . the stupidity of some people amazes me. That'd be a violation of federal law to attempt to send it through the mail, and no courier service would want to touch it either. What if a few cans burst in the cargo hold of a UPS plane? Sounds like something straight out of John Minnery's 6-volume guide to be an armchair assassin.

Personally I like my Mag-Safe's. They implode on explosion and travel 1,380 fps..... Look kinda' like 3 down and 3 across....jagged top.

3 down and 3 across is a Bill Kaswer law/bone grabber.

I have posted a few of these exotic type rounds for trade on the exchange:o

Yeah, this totally just became my new desktop ... and it looks absolutely awesome

Question: Are these arranged by any sort of caliber?
