Exotic steels

CPM-S30V, S90V, 440v, D2, M4, S60V, and testing some S125V now though not mine :(

The only exotic/super steels I have are knives with laminated blade constructions of Japanese stainless steel and Hitachi White steel and one of Super Blue steel.

And a folder with M4.

Infi is nice. CPM 3V is nice. Talonite/stellite are nice.
All the super steels (and nonsteels) are nice.
But exotic?
Give me wootz. That's exotic.

Since when is CPM154 'exotic'? I figured this would be about new, different, or rare and not just a current favorite.

It's what a lot of Custom makers use in folders, not something you see a ton of in production knives.

You see some 154CM, but not too much CPM 154.

I myself don't own any knives except a small frost cutlery folder that I got for free from a friend, however, one of my friends in his knife collection has a black steel knife, I'm not sure the manufacturer or the model, but it's fairly old.

Wootz steel. I just looked that up on that definitive source which is the internet and it sure looks similar to the grain on my Roselli UHC Hunter. I also read somewhere else where the writer (who may or may not know of what he writes) mentioned Wootz in the context of Roselli UHC.

You don't suppose Roselli has "re-invented" Wootz steel do you? In whole or in part? Or something akin to it? I have tried to find more information on the UHC steel and all I find is Roselli literature which does not call it Wootz and others who speculate.

Regardless, and noting a post above noting Wootz as very exotic, I am sticking to my statement that whatever it is, this Roselli UHC is pretty exotic stuff.

Not exotic :D, but these I like the best now:
CTS-XHP
CPM S35VN
CPM M4
CPM 154
CPM 3V
CPM S30V

Edit: How in the World could I not listed my INFI !!! ??? :) :D

There's wootz, and then there's wootz. The real wootz is the legendary stuff that the Crusaders encountered that was supposed to be so amazing it could cut falling silk. Several people "rediscovered" wootz, or more precisely, approximated wootz, most notably Alfred Pendray in the USA. I have s Roselli. It's pretty, and it's hard, but mine doesn't cut like the legendary stuff, that's for sure.

Does Ti count? I have a Ti blade Super CQC7. I have a 1' overall Ti fixed blade due soon from RW.

Most exotic so far I have:
T1 by Farid Mehr - it rusts right on my eye when I tried to wash it:

and also "Izuha-kou" special propritory blend of Shirogami #1 (made only for Fujiwara) which has 64-65HRC.

I think OU-31 is also pretty exotic:

But only Roselli UHC among this exotic steels is actually performs pretty well (and it is not wootz):

Thanks, Vassili.
