Expensive Knife

My most expensive purchase has to be my xm18 spanto. It's engraved with dog paws and exclusive to plaza cutlery. I paid around 750 for it? But I handled another xm18 prior to my purchase and knew I had to have it! I carry it almost everyday and know I will never part with it either!

hey wolverine 666,
1st. i have identified with wolverine for to many years to count, then my anger subsided and i became more mellow as my heart had that quality in it too. Now, i'm in swing mode lol, and will work on getting back to real mellow again lol.

so far i thing my most expensive is my 29 weehawk BALISONG by Chris Olofson.
ok so here is where i tease yall . i can't recall the price I'll have to check, and then i have to dig the knife out to take a picture or 2 of it too lol.

I GOT IT AND WAS THRILLED, actually before i got it i was thrilled; which started as soon as i made the purchase of that grail.
i was only disappointed because i could not close the damn thing and sort out 411 to help me decide to keep it or return it.

with the help of some JD folks, i was able to keep it and still be happy with it; based on the latch being something typical of 29's:thumbup: !

I had to have it in spite of the price lol, not because of the price lol. It is just so freaking gorgeous and appeals to my sense
of YIN-YANG perfection. also the back edge was sharp already and that's how i like in a weehawk style blade to be.

the fit and finish as they say are just superb. how it feels is also superb imho. and lastly i did my favorite emergency opening (forward latch) without really looking at it and it flew into my hand like it knew it belong to me and was finally home sweet home.

lastly i ordered online without having been able to handle it, based on what the specs said, what many have raved about, and because my heart said " son this is your shot don't blow it " :)

P.S.
pics to follow, but be patient dental appt. today so if i'm in more pain after then i am usual the pics will wait. lol

What's the most you have ever spent on a knife ? $550.

Which knife was it ? Terzuola ATCF "Bolster Lock".

Were you thrilled with it ? Disappointed ? :DTHRILLED!:D

What was it about the knife that made you "have to have it" despite the price ?
Had an earlier Ti bolster liner lock version in the late 90's.
Felt bad for selling it in a "purging phase" when I stopped collecting around 2000.
Always knew I'd just have to get another ATCF one day.

Did you actually handle the knife first or did u order it online going souly on research and recommendations ?
Found it for sale right here on BF a bit over a year ago IIRC.
Didn't need to think about it more than a second, regarding research/recommendations.

The most so far $441.00
Disappointed not in the knife but the price, it was my first auto,, microtech ultratech D/E one plain one serrated,,,,,,, I looked everywhere for one in Florida so as to not ship across state lines, it was months later after joining here I found out I could have found one for half that price,
I,ll never sell this one other than being a great blade,,, it reminds me to do more research and not to let my heart lead me in to reckless spur of the moment buying..

Little over $650,OOO.OO I purchased the knife about 14 years ago while on vac. at Dollywood in Tn. The Group Alabama was playing there for 3 nights, man what a great show. We had family in from 5 states and rented a monster 7 BR house on top a mountain near Gatlinberg Tn... All the men were in this huge game room in the basement, been drinking whiskey, burning a lot of "fire" that summer day, when we all heard all hell break loose way upstarts. House had basement and then 2 ground floors. Coming to the ground floor kitchen I reached for protection and went to the top floor with an 5 inch 'ol hickory pearing knife. There I saw one of my 5 brother in laws naked in bed with my wife, and his wife beating them both with the legs off a broken ironing board. She turned to yell at me, my brother in law jumps up, and I swear to God, and was acquitted of all charges, him running naked, fell into that 'ol hickory as he was falling to the hardwood floor. Needless to say that ended the trip for me and we split it up 50/50. if you count the Alabama tickets, about $650,140.00. Still got the knife. Sheriff laughed like hell when he gave it to me after court in TN. Divorce was in NC. WTF ps fear was the reason I got the knife.

Now THAT is a hell of a story. Looks like that knife has already paid for itself :)

An xm18. The detent, like someone else mentioned, was almost nonexistent. Was pretty much told to f**k off by Rob Orlando when he told me that's how they wanted it, knowing damned well it's a quality issue and that no LEO that carries it in their right mind would want it like that. That's when I knew I got gyped because of the "hard use, overbuilt" nonsense. Sold it because I thought I bought a knife that would last a lifetime and it flipping open on its own might actually make that happen if it happened during a fight to arrest someone. Better left in a safe to look pretty or in the pants pocket of someone who doesn't get into rough situations everyday.

My zt is great and also like posted earlier, my next big knife purchase will be a Rockstead folder or Burt Foster fixed blade.

First Gen MicroTech Socom
Loved it
Carried it for 5 years, then it got stolen
Probably my favorite all time folder that I have owned

$3,100. Let's just say it was a production knife that I wanted and didn't, at the time, come to market that often to complete a set. Got into a bidding war and didn't want to lose. As far as knives go that are actually worth what I paid, $1,400 for a Tim Wright boot knife/chute knife.

I find the question an odd one. Akin to asking a hunter the longest clean killing shot he made. The marksman's brag may be in the longest shot made, but the hunter's brag is really in the shortest clean shot made.

Sooooooooooooo, I think a better question would be --- what's the least you paid for a great quality/premier maker's knife? I paid $125 for a custom fixed blade Tom Mayo made for me more than 15 years ago during my last assignment in Hawaii. A great deal, thanks to Tom. That also just so happens to be the most I've ever paid for any knife.

Love that story about $160,000.
I spent $725 and $650 on a 3.5" spanto and 3" slicer Hinderer. The big one had nearly zero detent. The small 3" was too small for my hand. Sold both within two wks; never carried either one. Very disappointing.
I stick with large Sebbies or Zaans.

What's the most you have ever spent on a knife? $550

Which knife was it? Pohan Leu Bluephin

Were you thrilled with it? Absolutely, everything about it is outstanding. I'd have to be broke on the streets before I'd sell it.

What was it about the knife that made you "have to have it" despite the price? Blade shape, IKBS flipper, being able to choose the materials/finish and Pohan letting me alter his handle design a little.

Did you actually handle the knife first or did you order it online going solely on research and recommendations? All online research.

you shot what ? did you not have a knife. sorry but I am confused, I thought we had to answer the question, change it we can will ? I love guns also, what type Cal. was it, I know some of the ammo new guns for champ a like shoots.

sknaht.

I traded a like new Stag Arms 2T AR15 for a BUSSE NMFBMLE a couple of years ago.
I was pretty pleased with the knife.
Owning a couple of combat grade Busses is what made me want it
I was able to handle a few LE's before the trade but I did a fair amount of online stalking as well

MD Wild Cat, 1200$. I'm very satisfied. Last week was with me in Polish mountains and works very well:)

To date, the most expensive is a Zero Tolerance 0801 that I bought at a gun show for $189. I'd already been through all the gun vendor displays and hadn't been inspired, so I decided it was time to pay closer attention to the knives. Some ZTs and Benchmades at one booth were cool, but nothing jumped out at me. Then I walked around the corner to the next aisle, and there was the 0801 in all its metallic glory.

No disappointment with it yet, although it does spend most of its time locked away and will probably never get subjected to any serious work.

Aw c'mon man you gotta let us know what it was! I know a thing or two about bidding wars but daaayyuuummmm.

What's the most you have ever spent on a knife?$155

Which knife was it?My most recent purchase- A Spyderco Domino

Were you thrilled with it ? Disappointed? Thrilled, my first non "budget" flipper and my first Ti R.I.L. also before I got it I had always been under the impression it was manix2 size (~3.4") which is a little large for my taste but I was very pleasantly surprised to find it perfect size for me.

What was it about the knife that made you "have to have it" despite the price? My price ceiling has recently been upped (from ~$100 to pretty much unlimited) but the physical attributes were the overall appearance, the materials, f&f and the bearings and being a Spyderco flipper.

Did you actually handle the knife first or did u order it online going souly on research and recommendations? My good friend whom I got it from actually sent it to me just to play with and I told him I couldn't send it back, I had to have it, luckily he was cool with selling it to me lol.

What's the most you have ever spent on a knife?$225

Which knife was it?ZT 0560

Were you thrilled with it ? Disappointed? Thrilled and still am. It may be a "Po Man's" Hinderer, but it's a really nice, smooth operating knife and it holds a razor's edge for a long while.

What was it about the knife that made you "have to have it" despite the price? It was a knife with high-end materials, sporting the design of Rick Hinderer. Had a real Hinderer been available without the BS secondary market mark-up, I may never have gotten it. I'm happy I did and now don't concern myself with the custom anymore.

Did you actually handle the knife first or did u order it online going solely on research and recommendations? Solely from reviews and pictures. To be honest, the ZT knives I had held previously were uninteresting to me... too large and sporting re-curve blades. This was the first one I was really interested in(the 550 was too bland...). It worked out well and now I'm looking forward to the 562.

2k on this one, and I love it to death. Worth every cent.

I was at the right place at the right time, you try and buy a serrated super cqc6 with domed pivot. Once in a lifetime chance.

$3500 For single knife (Actually I have couple in that price range)
$3850 for set
My cheapest was like $30
