Expensive Knives - Do you use them?

For me, a poor college student (lol), any knife greater than about $80 bucks is considered expensive. My EDCs are usually sleek folders, the Kershaw Leeks being my favorite. I have 4 of them, yet I never really use or carry my rainbow or Damascus leek. I've also got a couple of expensive balisongs too that I like to flip but it's very rare I'll ever use them for anything heavier than cutting tape. So of all my knives I probably only use about 20% of them. My girlfriend likes to give me crap about buying more knives for that reason, haha. Of course some rare production knives or customs are more art than knife but where is the cut off for you? What is the most expensive knife you have that you'll use to the point of needing resharpening?

I regularly carry a custom Demko ($680) that is marked 1 of 1. I use it a lot.

The knife I use most other than my Delica 4 ffg or ZT 0551 is my Startac Umnumzaan that was around $430. Don't be afraid to use your more expensive knives... you live once, enjoy it.

Not me but I just buy for the fun of carrying a different one to work with everyday. Most expensive knife i own is a fifty dollar Case. I see no reason to buy several hundred dollar knives to work with when a twenty or thirty dollar knife will do. But if your a serious collector your mileage will vary from mine.

Won't keep me from slobbering over some high dollar stuff though!

Strider smf, and I use it daily. Its just a tool like anything else, no need to baby it cause its a $500 knife.

I never leave home without the Strider ($550) my wife gave me for our anniversary. I was shy to use it at first, but I have found the more I do the more I love it. I love to sharpen it to a mirror polish. I find the knife is truly becoming mine as I use it more and more. I know there are knives that are more expensive or whatever, but this knife feels more like an old friend now, priceless to me. I say use it like you 'stole it!

I used my Horton Camp 2 (which is currently my most expensive blade until the Winklers coming in). Being over at the other side of the globe i have custom restrictions and CONUS policy have made my purchases extra tough.
Like you, i could only afford 1 steel/blade and Spydie Millie collection never crossed my mind. I have to be extra thoughtful with the currency and i make sure the dough is well-spent. No doubt some of them are safe queen but i try to keep it to minimum.

If i decided to splurge so much onto it i just have justify the worth as a returning customer or one off.

Otherwise it's just a pretty piece of steel waiting to collect dust and rust.:)

I use all my knives, some I do save for light tasks but the most expensive I have is like $150 (I have custom swords and hawks but no custom knives yet). Once I do break into the top shelf stuff I'll use them too.

I use all my knives - the ones in the $1,000+ category as well as the ones that I got for $20. It's all good.

My newest EDC is a Rockstead TEI S, and it cuts like no other knife I have ever had. These retail for anywhere between 1200-1600...Before this guy firmly planted in my pocket, I carried an RJ Martin Q36, Sebenza, Hinderer and many other high quality knives.... Nothing comes close to the fit and finish, and the edge holding capabilities are unmatched, in my experience.

Man, now I am looking for more of them....

My most expensive is a Spyderco Sage 2 Titanium and it's currently my EDC, love this knife.

I'm a user, not a collector, and right now I switch back and forth between an inlaid large sebenza and umnumzaan. Umnumzaan just under $400, large Sebenza just over $400.

They can be refurbished if damaged, so there really is no logical need for me to worry about carrying and using them.

I have several higher end folders ($300+) and I use them. They are scratched and sharpened and get dirty and wet. I don't buy knives as investments, I buy them because I like them. Enjoy what you have!

My most expensive is a John W. Smith SD-3 folder @ $525. I do use this one, only my use is very lightweight considering many of you. I just don't need a knife that much during the course of a regular day. Doesn't stop me from carrying a big 'ole folder in my right pocket though!!

My most expensive knife is a small Sebenza 21. I use it. I don't buy knives that I am not willing to use.

My most expensive i use daily, though it isnt as expensive as some of the others

its a benchmade barrage, paid 140 for it. I am a poor college student too, but it was definitely worth it

Very well stated. I am in the same position. I switch between an Umnumzaan and an S90V Para2.

everyone has a different definition of what's expensive.

this is my para2 20CP sprint at work monday night.
