Exploring the Nessmuk "Trio"

I made time for a little readinto this afternoon.
Though this time sitting in the warm in my conservatory sitting on my original Parker Knowle chair,it’s been in the family decades.

Has anyone made those wooden tongues he describes?I just can’t picture them.

I spelt tongs wrong 🤣
Aha! That explains it.
I forgot the tongs too, but you'd probably end up with something like this.

I bought a cashmere jumper a few weeks ago,its more the damp seeps into the broken bones and the old war wounds start aching 😆
He said good wool.....LOL....my wife wears cashmere. A good thick Irish sweater made from long staple Merino will fix you up good.....😃

Yup, I have couple Filsons that would do nicely, and a heavy wool Filson Waterfowl Guide sweater.
This is a Johnson woolen mills, I did my research and it seemed to be a better value.
Sadly JWM and Filson only go up to 24oz wool though.
Bemidji woolen mills uses a 30oz wool, but their offerings and options are currently more limited.

Nessmuk probably would have worn a much more traditional double Mackinaw coat, likely handmade from a HB co blanket and I wouldn't be surprised if the wool was up to 35oz.

It's a shame that Americas wool industry has fallen so far the best you can get is a 30oz 85/15 blend.

I have had a Johnson for years. It was a lot cheaper than the Filson coats, and for good reason. The difference is immediately apparent when you put them on.
Currently filson has put their prices through the roof for no good reason, and I've heard their quality isn't what it was even 10-15 years ago.

I have been extremely happy with my JWM cruiser, it compares fairly well to both my vintage woolrich pieces though my woolrich barn jacket is a heavier 26oz wool.

Yeah, ever since those two guys from Texas bought Filson and tried to turn it into a mall boutique store its been all downhill. Pretty much all my Filson stuff is older, some from the 1970 and earlier even. I have one cruiser with a Forsett cloth label from the 1930s. Quality is good but the wool is very rough.
Prices are crazy now....the waterfowl sweater I have is now selling for $500 new...😮..no way would I buy anything new from them. Ebay is the place for decent Filson prices.

Even JWM isn't exactly cheap, my cruiser was about $350 shipped in October.
I'd have went the vintage route, but the green and black check is hard to find in my size in good condition at a price that's worth buying over new.

LOL I think mine was about $150 ten or so years ago...WOW.

If you can live with solid bright red look at the official BSA shirt jac. I don't know how good the current Chinese made version is, and it costs more than I am willing to spend. I picked up an older USA made one in almost new condition on the bay for under $50.
