Thanks everybody for the comments. I was lucky to have a dad that took me to rendezvous and canoeing... I want to make sure my kids get the same experience. I'm also getting back into nature photography. It's fun seeing how curious the kids are when I find little critters to photograph.

Thomas I seriously considered photoshopping in some furry curls on her feet!

Nice post Scott. It made my evening. Amazing photographs of an equally amazing place. The family story was very inspiring and full of love and warmth.
Thanks.

What a wonderful story Scott, great photos as well. Having done more than my fair share of canoeing, I can appreciate the family bonding that happens on a trip of this sort.

Question: why do you have the canoe seats fastened to the top of the gunwales, rather than hung below?

Thanks again everybody!

Peter.. That was the way the canoe was when I bought it and I've never really thought about it. I picked it up from a local guy that guided groups of school kids into the boundary waters for $200! A kevlar canoe for $200. But I'm going to be refinishing the gunwales next spring.. so I will look into the best way to re-attach. Thanks for bringing it up!

Thanks Stuart... I was wondering what you folks from up in your country would think about the pictures... I figured there would be some similarity!

Peter... Just looked at the Malecite on Mad River's website... yeah.. they are mounted WELL below the gunwales below extended pegs! That would certainly bring down the center of gravity.. but maybe cramp the legs?? I'm assuming the former owner modified for this purpose. And it behaves wonderfully in this regard. But.. I'm going to remount and see how it feels at a local lake of ours.. I'm curious.

Scott,

Looks like a fun time, we did similar things when I was a boy. My wife's idea of camping is the Ritz Carlton, so no chance this is happening for me!

Scott your photography is wonderful

I just got a GOPRO and its amazing. Have you considered video ?

Thank you Joe. It's fun getting back into this kind of photography. But I didn't bring a tripod..so the quality is a little low from shooting at such high ISO. I need to find a nice lightweight tripod... which would also be necessary for video. I've done some video and have a bit of editing knowledge and would love to do a trip like this with some other makers and shoot a little documentary of us using our stuff...
