Extra...Extra...."Man makes knives".....

congratz mace.
dan came and showed me late last night.
your becoming a celeb mace.... leaving very big foot prints for me and dan
to try and fill, but your a great teacher and a great friend.:D :D

Whew.....My heads come back almost to normal size!

This was a great write up...almost too good. In todays paper my picture was on the "opinion" page. Someone wrote in because I wasn't wearing safety glasses! The thing is....I always wear them in the shop. I just took them off for the photo. Oh well...I'm still in the paper. :D

i can speak for mace he does wear and make sure every one in his shop wears his safety equipment. the first day in his shop he stressed all his concerns on safety. i guess in this feild if you dont want burn scars or finger loss and so on you gotta be safe first. there is no room for error around hot metal and fast spinning machines.

Mace
...I remember about two years ago here on the forum.
A guy was called up from the Newspaper and told they wanted to run a story about the swords he made.

The guy felt at the time that this would be a real fun to happen. He liked the idea of haveing a artical about himself in the newspaper to point to when he got old.

BUT.......But the reporter from the paper attacked the guy when he showed up. The newspaper reporter went on and on how the guy was making "weapons near a school"...and tried to get the city to close his shop down.

it was all a set-up from the start....

Im so glad that didnt happen to you,,,,But we all got to be so carefull in this day and age........

Alan,

That's what Mace was refering to when he posted this:

I was a bit cautious (after that whole Licata thing last year)....

in post #13.

I don't think any of us will ever forget that...and will always be suspicious. Sad, but true. :(

yes, thats the one....
I remember at the time, how sick I felt for the guy...

While Im very happy to see in this case that not all newspaper guys are out to "make" the news by setting up good people that were just minding their own business.....

Still, makes you think about stuff.

That is a great article Mace ! You deserve all the attention that it brings (the good attention anyway) Isn't that how it goes (the safety glass thing) ? There is always someone looking for stuff like that to point out. To bad about the other guy Alan mentioned. Sad thing is I think we'll be seeing quite a bit more of that.It will only get worse. I think it was Thomas Jefferson that said "The Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance". After having read many a post by Mace , I'm sure he was hoping for the best but was certainly prepared for the worst ;) (if it reared its ugly head). Again , Great Job Mace ! Congratulations

You know...that whole thing with Licata got me thinking. There were a lot of e-mails sent to that reporter(I sent one) letting her know what people thought about her "reporting".
On that note...there is an e-mail at the end of my article for the reporter who wrote it. His name is Jim Shelton. It might be nice to let him know how you all feel. Maybe it will help the craft in a small way.
Just a thought.
Mace
