Even your small keychain SAKs are banned....

Yep, just saw it flash across the bottom of my tv screen. No knives allowed through security checkpoints. Of any length.

It's a sad fact that terrorist acts can and will change the nature of our freedoms.

No, it's a sad fact that Americans will allow the Government to change the nature of our freedoms....it's all for the best though..

Well, I guess I'll have to just start carrying my 12 lb sledgehammer. No one has hijacked and airplane with one of those...yet:rolleyes:

If everyone else on those airplanes had knives, the only dead people today would be some terorists. Criminals are not concerned with laws, and banning weapons doesn't reduce crime. Never has, never will...

Keep in mind that this ban includes concession stands in the "sterile" areas. Anybody up for some McPudding? Or McOatmeal?

Can't wait until someone uses a fork to hijack a plane. And to be honest, I can do some serious damage with a heavy soup spoon.

"Hold out your hands and I'll pour you your McMeal, sir!"

I can't say that I'm surprised about the ban. Hopefully, in the future some sort of compromise can be reached. Given what has happened, I'm not too down on the government for banning pocketknives. If they didn't they would have never heard the end of it. I just hope that this doesn't lead to a general banning of knives in all of society. We knife people are going to have to fight to educate the population about the usefulness of cutting tools in everyday life or else people will only see them as weapons.

Actually, a disgruntled employee hijacked a FedEx plane with a hammer a few years ago before it took off the ground.

Per MSNBC the FAA ban is:

The FAA is also prohibiting the sale or use of knives, regardless of size, in any secure areas of the airport. This prohibition includes concession areas and food and beverage stands as well as retail sales, and affects both metal and plastic knives.

For what it's worth, the FAA's website is currently down (12:30 Central).

Don't stand for this guys. Start writing your Congressmen now. If we let them take away one single freedom as the result of those bastard's terrorism, they win! It's time to join rank folks, we are in an ideological war that we have to win. We have to make our politicians understand this, or replace them at the polls. We have much work to do.

Gee whiz, I wonder if they'll assign each passenger a nanny next.

Hey, I WOULDN'T mind at all if "Nanny Fine" was assigned to me on my next flight.:D.:p.:D.

Looks like BF was ahead of the game when it opened the Hawk forum....

The WTC disaster does not affect my life as much as it does most other members (Finland is some way off) still it should not have happend and quite understand the sentiment around. On the pragmatic side: no european nation has the power (or, I am afraid the will) to do anything if the bad guys are ie. in Afganistan, US does have it.

The more practical problem is this BB's main subject, we have a very strong tradition of using knives as tools, weapon use is secondary and I have carried a knife with me as long as I can remember - as a tool. Now it looks like the standard options might be out - what next? Plastic knives are they useful - I have never tried one so far. Any other ways around the knife ban?

IT WASN'T JUST KNVIES THEY ATTACKED WITH! I heard that the hijackers told passengers that they had a BOMB on board. A hijacker with a box cutter is one thing. A hijacker with a box cutter making BOMB threats is another. PLEASE write your Congressmen and remind them that it was the BOMB threats that allowed hijackers to take over, not so much box cutting knives.
