Factory edges seen through a USB-Microscope

I can toss in some pics of non-factory edges if that's kosher with the OP, but I'll wait to see if he's okay with it since he specifically requested factory edges.

I'd rather keep this thread for USB factory edges, so maybe we can start another for resharpened edges.

New & unused Leatherman Wave 420 steel blade from around 2008.
Due to a large piece of burr the edge has difficulty even slicing a piece of copy paper.

New & unused 420HC blade made in 2010 for a Buck 110, and the edge can shave armhair.
The first picture was an attempt to get the lens as close as possible to the point of the blade, while at the same time trying to focus as best as i could, so this is about the maximum enlargement.

Spyderco Military S90V/Carbon Fiber.
The factory edge on this knife still has a burr attached almost along it's entire length, and also some brownish discoloration in some area's.

Very interesting info. Love the pics.

Is the brown discoloration from overheating during final grind (sharpening)?

To tell you the truth: i didn't know until i removed that burr an hour ago with a Paper Wheel coated with 0,25 micron diamond compound and i tested the burr-free edge by cutting several times into my test block.
The toothy edge held up just fine and could also slice single ply toilet paper clean afterwards, so it must have been some kind of residue from the factory sharpening job.
