Fading popularity of traditional knives

I still don't understand why they don't make car bodyworks in S35VN instead of using cheap carbon steel...at least mine has an assisted opening trunk and locking mechanism for the doors :)
You tied the car and knife topics together nicely... Well played you clever boy.

I'm an unabashed fan of stainless on my Traditionals, but you can't avoid carbon in this niche ;)

That said, I want to continue the parallel with cars; wasn't that De Lorean character making suspect cars and mind boggling debts out of stainless steel?;) at least they haven't rusted into oblivion, sorry, patinated nicely:D

I didn't read all 19 pages but just wanted to add my thoughts. Might be repeating someone else. Who knows.

Anyway. I think there's a place for both moderns and traditionals. I am a lefty and very much appreciate ambi or lefty specific moderns for times when I need to use my other hand for something else (working on my irrigation system, wrenching on something in the garage or shop, or around the house, etc.) I also very much like traditionals and own way more of them than I do moderns. I work in a professional office environment (mostly suits and ties) and so small traditionals like my all time favorite Case Peanuts are perfect.

I also think most "non-knife people" probably carry traditionals with a smattering of cheap import moderns available at big box stores. At least that's been my experience. Or those strange "razor blade" knives.

I can count on two hands the number of times I've run into someone else who knew what name brand modern knife brands were, let alone carries them.

Again, just my thoughts.
