Loveless was way ahead of his time. He also said that a knife handle should be so comfortable it should feel like holding your own junk. That just make me wonder about having a comfortable knife handle made by someone else...

Denver omelet for breakfast this mornin. Always a favorite.

Good morning y'all.
I don't know Xander, those would be some big handles! lmao...
In Xander's case it would barely be a 3 finger grip:D
BAKO,The trip to Tuffthumbs sounds like a blast! With so many nice knives!
Daniel,Thanks so much for that link to the Loveless article.
Y'all have a great day.

Haha, only because I have hands the size of baseball mits!

Ok, enough locker room humor, this is spiraling fast, lol!

Got the first 5 coats of Tru-Oil on the spike handle this morning. I like to let it cure after every 5 coats or so rather than just blast through all 20 coats, I feel it gives a more robust finish.

Tonight I will put several more coats on, one I get the handle finished I will shape the tang of the shank and assemble with black G-flex.

20 coats.... come on Xander I want to see at least 1000! :D

My Dad had a lacquered 32 Ford with the old school bug based green lacquer, he said it ha like 20 coats on it... crazy stuff!

I used to do a bit of boat varnish work. Xander I'm sure you know about that stuff!

That is looking good!

Well men went to my specialist appointment in Milwaukee. In 6 weeks they are going to do a fusion on my spine at L5,S1.So hopefully all goes well so I can some what enjoy being retired. Hope all of you have had a good week!!!

Good luck Big! My mom had two vertebrea fused about 25 years ago, she said it was the best thing she had done. Just be sure to eat right and keep the weight off during recovery and you will be better off when verticle again.

Yikes, bigcountry. I'm sure the tech has advanced, but in 90 I broke C2 and C3 crashing a motorcycle at Pocono. They wanted to fuse me when it looked like I'd be paralyzed but once the swelling subsided a bit I could move my feet so they never did it. I've still managed to avoid surgical incisions to the ripe age of 43 though! :D

William Woods TiTan- one of 15, according to Geoff's buddy Vance-

This thing is so damn big, the inertia from flipping it open almost caused it to leap out of my hands into Vance's crotch. I held the next one they passed me a little tighter. ;)

Bag O' THUCKs... John Gray "THUCK" (Tactical Hunter Utility Combat Knife, duh!) in various finishes, with a jumbo THUCK on top with scuff random ano scales. John even has the pivot custom made with some insanely high thread count. Moar locking surface, under less tension he says. Meant to be adjusted with anything flat instead of a special tool. The only things John doesn't make himself, or have made for him, are the 3 Phillips screws on the side, and 2 holding the clip. All three screws can fail, and the knife won't come apart as it has been press-fit together with Ti pins.

Anyone who wants one, I can probably swing a deal as John is an old gun buddy from back in the day...

Daniel- That quote was from Phill! He was so grounded. Also, he helped me when I quit drinking. I'll never forget that.
Phill was just grind and HT master. Just PERFECT! I never would have even looked at an A2 knife until Phill schooled me about it.

Matt, I showed Daniel that picture before I cropped it, and he mentioned the WIP. Thanks!

Here is the lock side of the jumbo THUCK. Notice pins for press fit, and the unique shape of the locking bar. The thumb stud is one piece of SS, press fit through a hole.

Some of the next batch of Geoff's War Toad frikkie just back from Waterjet. On the far left is the original War Toad proto with a second cutting edge. Kinda Warren Thomas-ish.

Sweet stuff there Bako. I'll be knife hungry soon and those trucks look like they need my love.

Also I had a Titan first run, #11. I decided to sell it as it needs, uhm, refinements ;) looking forward to seeing if he continues with making and hones his skills, great design and concept just a little rough (for me at least). William is great to work with though.

Whelp, back to sleep...

Daniel, knife pics would be sweet:)

I just wanted to add some comments about Geoff and his operation.

He's 29 and started two years ago after losing his job. He cuts locking bars with a cutoff wheel in a drill press and a 90 degree vise. The level of creativity in this guy is pretty astonishing, too. We've all seen his pimpjobs, but unless you've held one, or one of his knives, the level of finish isn't as obvious. Sort of like a DFK- they look gorgeous in pictures, but until you're actually holding it in your hand the sheer workmanship isn't yet apparent. I went there just to get him to swap the pocket clip over on a knife he had made, and he insisted on basically rebuilding the entire thing, right down to letting me pick a color for the liners, and new washers for the pivot.

I realized after seeing the pile of factory knives he'd converted into framelocks that he's been rehearsing for this all along- and it makes perfect sense to take a knife that's already done being engineered for function, as a convenient test mule for your techniques and materials.

All in all I'm pretty impressed.

Bacon wrapped grass, yumm...

I hink tonight I'm going to do stuffed chicken breast with grass and local smoked gouda cheese, breaded and baked. I need to pickle some more for my martini's. Absolut 100, dirty, two spears. Perfection.

I gotta get a design going for my Lunar Light frikky, I just found a bunch of chain ring bolts in my parts bins, or I may try and order some Ti ones. Kevin, you got any Ti chainring bolts you wanna trade for some Campy track nuts? Maybe just one?

-X

He said "Nuts". Hehehrmrhrmehehrmheh!

I'm thinking of trying my hand at making a frikkie. I think I'm going to go full modern after I dissect a Svord peasant and I'm going to want to do etched steel with chainring bolts, ti liners, and jade G10. I like to jump right in the deep end. I watched Geoff do the anodizing last night and thought, "Wow! An idiot could do that- but I'm a Moron and that's a whole different class of stupid...". Seriously, it didn't look difficult.

I'd buy some ti chainring bolts if you want to split a bag, dude! ;)

Annodizing Ti is super simple, nowhere near as dangerous as doing aluminum. Hell, I've done it with Diet pepsi and some battries. Its simply just voltage and an eletrolyte. Aluminum is actually dyed (I used RIT dye before) under the naturally occurring oxide layer. Forcing it thicker is done through voltage/time/and nasty acids.

Shoot me an email on what chainring bolts you find, I'll send you a set of nuts! You could always off 'em to Kevin for $40 for two. :D
