I'm no expert but for 32 bucks and the quality of this sharpener is amazing.
For stones you get 180, 400, 800, and a 1500 ceramic stone.
The stones come in a blue cleaning cloth that works but the materiel is awful and clings to skin kind of like a soft velcro.
You get a little bottle of oil for sharpening. DON'T USE IT! Once you use oil on a sharpening stone its all you can ever use. Use water instead.
It also comes with a blue sharpie like marker for marking the edge and making sure the angle is right.
The construction of the sharpener is solid and there's no wiggle in any of the parts that would cause an uneven angle.
The stones themselves are flat and work perfectly. After sharpening two of my knives.. Well lets just say that my left arm is missing allot of hair.. and also my left leg... You can see a reflection in the blades after sharpening but its hazy but at no fault to the product. to get a true mirror finish you would need a finer grit stone to finish and a really good strop.
I think i can safely say for the $32 compared to the 200 for the real deal.. its just as good. And i really mean its just as good. If you ever need new stones or want to use a edge pro apex blank with strop tape go right ahead and buy edge pro stones / strops. It will work with them.

so you are saying it is alright to buy counterfit knife sharpners?? or am I reading your post wrong?? you get what you pay for.

Its not Counterfeit. They never once claim its an edge pro. They just used the design. And yeah it is ok to buy it because its every bit as good as the edge pro...

This review is for people who are just getting into the knife hobby and cant afford the the edge pro. Kids scraping up all there money just to buy a cheap knife cant spend 250$ on a knife sharpener. This post is for them and to let them know they can get an edge just as good within there price range. I was there at one point and would have been damn happy to find this post. If your going to scold me for buying a cheap sharpener designed after an amazing sharpener, i don't want to hear it.

Ah, but you will hear it . . . again and again and again. And it's not an argument that's winnable, so I'd suggest you not even try to win it. The key is not to take anything anyone says to you personally. If you keep in mind that what other people think of you is none of your business and admit that just because you and they may disagree doesn't mean they're wrong, you'll be just fine. :)

Thanks. I was hoping bladeforums would be more troll free. I guess that no matter where you go there's always trolls. I will ignore them from now on and just keep trying to help people and push aside all the idiots.

I can understand you wanting to get a review out on a product you purchased and like. The other side of the coin in this case is the fact that most folks are ardently opposed to these knockoff products. The troll statement is unfounded. A mirror check might be in order. I'd let this one go thread heaven and let it be.

@ Nogorn,

Thank you for the review. I edited your first post to remove the information on where to find these. The information I removed takes nothing away from your review but did come very close to breaking our "deal spotting" rule. Thanks for understanding and thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts.

I'm not seeing anyone trolling. You post in an open forum and you get feedback as a result. Nt wanting it to be what you want to hear is one thing, but trolling is miles away. The general tone of the quoted post, calling people in general idiots (for disagreeing with you) isn't going to work well to help win you influence. A very good economy sharpener for "kids scraping by" would be the Smiths systems too, the benefit is that they are portable and work in the field.

I hate to even get in to these conversations, but here is my two cents worth, although not asked for, and you don't even have to pay up the $0.02.
If you have a problem with a knock off of a certain product, and you are not the Manufacturer, or a Major Stockholder, then do not buy it. Vote with your dollars. It is not necessary to bash or berate someone that does find it useful and a good value to them. If it were illegal, or a patent infringement then it is up to the Manufacturer or patent holder to get it off the market. People don't want to hear your own prejudices about a product. If you have something to add to a review, plus or minus, then by all means give your experiences or views. Not you view that it shouldn't be available when it is legally marketed.

Same could be said about knives made in China. If you have a problem with a knife solely based on the fact that it is made in China, then by all means don't spend your hard earned dollars on them. (all the while buying and using a Chinese cell phone, etc) Who cares what each of us spend our own hard earned money on? It is after all our money. Most of the time anything made in China is fed through our economy and is sold, shipped, and worked on by American Citizens. So the old union argument about jobs lost is not entirely true.

My Grandmother always told me that if you can't say something good about someone (or something they own) don't say anything at all. Good advice I think for supposedly adults on a Family oriented forum

Stepping down off my soap box now!

Blessings,

Omar

Did you actually verify that the EP stones will work in this device?

Is there any way you can post some actual photos of it? Maybe some side by side comparison photos with the EP since it sounds like you have one (or have access to one).

At the very least, it sounds like a good alternative to the Smiths or the Lansky system.

I went with Ben Dale's product, not the unauthorized copy (yes a copy of intellectual property should always be authorized, thats how its done in America). I got Chinese everything, Im ok with their products, its unavoidable... But play fair. The Edgepro has no logos and is a unique product, copying it can be labeled as a counterfeit to the real thing. But Im sure someone here can lawyer up a technicality to conveniently duck that label too. Even if it is not breaking any law to clone these, I vote American made in this case. Even if it is en vogue these days to ridicule spending $200 while you can get those for $32 (you got ripped off, Ive seen it for $22). Plenty of knife related stuff sold on A********* are pirated products and I dont see a difference between this and buying a fake Sebenza. That's just me though, sharpen your heart out... It's your call. I could'nt see someone posting on the Reeve/Hinderer forums that the fake is as good as the real, get the fake instead though. I suppose sharpening products are open game. Just my thoughts. As long as you are happy with your sharpening solution... That is all that matters I suppose.

I hate to be the party pooper. I appologize in advance for being a douche and not ignoring it. Would have been the easy thing to do. No worries Im done. Carry on with the party! "Hey there come here often?"

what sharpner does the smiths system make please?? I have not heard of that one before.

They make a system very similar to the Lansky.

If these things infringe Ben's patents, I hope he sues there ^%$^ off. I don't know if they do or don't and am not an expert on patents anyway.

But I do know Ben is a great guy and I do know if we don't give inventors the benefits of their creativity we wont get any inventors, no??

I had an ep sold it. When I found out the patent expired I bought one of these. Seems pretty good. I believe the stones are swapable.

I can take pics of the "fake" if anyone would like.

Btw, the stones for the knockoff are not the same height so there is some trouble with angle consistency. You can compensate for it by raising the pivot when needed. I need to check if the aftermarket collar attachment thing works on this one.
