Fake Hinderers?

I recently went to a local knife dealer where I live and was interested in selling my FIVE (5) Hinderer's, all XM-18's in various configurations. He told me they were ALL counterfeit. I bought all 5 from members here on Blade forums. Can that be possible. The dealer said that Rick ALWAYS puts his logo on all of his blades. Mine have no logos. If this is so, what recourse might I have against any of the people on the forum that sold me the knives? I bought them about 3 years ago, and I;m having trouble going back and finding out the threads / people who sold me the knives. Any feedback, especially from a moderator, would be most helpful right about now.

As I said in one of your other 5 or so identical threads in another location, I believe I have seen quite a few sterile Hinderers listed over the years. Post pictures in the Hinderer sub forum?

if you bought them all from different people, it seems highly unlikely you just happened to get a couterfeit one every time. I dont know about the gentleman at your knife store, but the people at my local knifestore wouldnt know a Hinderer from Kershaw.

Ditto showed my local shop owner my xm-24. His exact words "nice knife, but I bet you had to spend like over $100 on it" try a grand buddy. Maybe be a little more proactive in your industry huh champ.

I likely will never be back, this coming from the guy who sold me my very first knife a kershaw scallion for $87

I know the two I purchased a couple years ago didn't have logos & they were purchased directly from Rick.

Both of the previous posters have pretty much covered it, but do the frames say "Hinderer" on the lockbar side?

Looks like your local knife dealer is trying to rip you off by telling you they're fake. You need to find the history of the different generations and see when the blades first started showing up with the logo on both sides of the blade. There are picture threads right here that you can see. You'll find many Hinderers that are sterile. I have a early gen 4 with no blade logo and it's about as real as they get.

I know this sucks, but there is no need to start 3 threads on the same subject. Best to just pick a spot and let it fly from there. Please make sure this doesn't happen as it can basically be considered spamming.

Yes, just not very "bold" and with a black etching to it. He showed me his Hinderer and it had the horse logo on each blade as well as the steel that it was made from. So I'm getting the impression from other posters that this guy either doesn't know what he's talking about, or that it is unlikely that five different people scammed me is unlikely. I think my next step is to visit another retailer for a second opinion.

I sincerely apologize for posting this in three different locations. I was just looking for the most help I could get from you guys. It won't happen again. Please believe me, I am NOT a spammer. And BTW, all of my knives look like the one's you posted here. So perhaps they are real but just "sterile"? I didn't know there was such a thing. I will post pictures. Do they still have value to them.

No worries Steve. Close up pictures of the blade would help (both sides), daylight photos with indirect light are best and give the truest color.

Time to find a new knife dealer, cause either your guy is clueless or is trying to take advantage of you sir. Your blades are called "Sterile", hence no logo bud. Sell them on the forum, they'll sell for market value.

RevDevil: Thanks for understanding about my multiple posts. Again, I apologize for it, but was in a panic mode if you can understand that. I will post pictures (if I can figure that out) as you and many others have suggested, and I went to Rick's site and I do see knives that look like mine. I'll get in touch with Mr. Orlando as well. I'm starting to become hopeful again.

They only started putting the laser etched logos on their blades last year. Your dealer is most likely just clueless. My question is... why would you bring it to your local knife shop to sell instead of just selling them on blade forums?

I wouldn't necessarily say this dealer is trying to take advantage of you, but it's definitely possible he may not be up with the generational changes the knife has gone through. I'm very fond of striders but I don't know all the generational nuances and to someone who is un or under informed those could throw red flags. It's not like a regular production knife where there will be thousands made that all look the same.

So really, I think it's unlikely that you got scammed here by 5 different people, members here are generally quick to point out a knock off in the exchange. The most likely scenario is that your dealer just isn't a Hinderer expert. Are they an authorized Hinderer dealer?

Why not just sell them on Bladeforums? You'll almost always get more from a private sale than you would selling to a guy who's #1 priority is making a profit.

Actually, laser etching started in 2012 (September).
