Many eBay dealers are legitimate, but that doesn't mean that someone selling clones/knock offs/counterfeits there cannot have a good rating too does it? I will say that more people have been ripped off on eBay than they have from buying from retail stores with good reputations, all other things being equal
Oh absolutely. I'm not saying people don't get ripped off buying off ebay, I'm not even saying that the amount of people ripped off buying off ebay is easily 3-5 times more likely than someone buying from any retail outlet with even a moderately good reputation. What I was saying is that if you do just a little bit of of looking around before you jump on the first thing you see with a decent price, the chances start dropping. If you see someone selling the item you're looking for check their feedback, check their seller rating, check how many transactions they've done, check the location, check for things like "no returns", and check their other items to make sure they deal in knives semi regularly. If you do all that(an extra 2-4 minutes worth of clicking around, really) you are less likely to end up with a fake.
Basically my point is quality purchases can be made on ebay and usually at a better price than most other places if you don't just dive in and throw your money to the first seller you see.
