Well, you have general question and the only answer you can get is also general - Yes, they are fakes. Are there any fake ZT 0450 (titanium scales) knives out there? I’m looking at getting a used one but don’t want to end up with a fake.
Searching the net, I’ve found other ZT models that have been cloned but I’m not finding any results for this particular model.
Thanks!
I did. Which one of those two you like to buy ?Poceh, did you see the photos?
That’s not crazy. Definitely could be real.120 and 150
The grinds look a bit rough.any thoughts on the photo i sent, from a legitimacy point of view?
excellent feedback. So i just returned 2 ZT 0808s about $100 each, and the seller, within 30 mins, refunded and apologized for the fakes, didn't ask for proof, and said keep the knives. The seller was new to eBay and appeared to want to be legit. So.... this feedback has been very helpful. I'm trying to decide if those two 450s need the same "return" action....I can tell you for a fact that there are plenty of legit sellers in the Bay, given that I’m one of them. I’ve also bought frequently from there as well.
I’d say you just have to learn what the clones look like. And I don’t mean appearance.
For example;
People fake Bugouts like crazy, and for super cheap. Be wary of anything “buy it now” for too cheap. Generally less than a 50% markdown is what I’ve seen. For example, people sell real Bugouts for 90 or 100 but not 35.
I’ve also seen people avoid brand names in order to avoid being reported. That’s an obvious one.
If the seller is communicative and friendly, I’d say that increases your chances of a real product. Lies hate being challenged. The truth doesn’t mind questions.
And the obvious one is to look at what is being obviously faked out there. No one is faking A. Purvis Xerx Integrals because it’s such a random knife and so hard to fake.
I’ve seen ZT fakes, CRK fakes, TONS of BM fakes, Medford fakes, Hinderer fakes, Shiro fakes, Holt fakes…
People fake what’s common and in demand because there are lost on the market and it’s easier to throw fake lures in among the real, and also the super high end, like Shiro and Holt, that people desire but can’t get a hold of.
I don’t often see many fakes of knives worth in between $200 and $300.
Do a search for “specter knife” or “haptic knife” in the Bay for some good examples of fakes.
different sellers... thanks for the feedbackAdvertised as used? Same seller, or different sellers?
Leo, i'll try the magnet idea... very interesting. assuming titanium is non-ferrous? (is that the right word? haha). i'll also try a scratchThe grinds look a bit rough.
I own a real Bugout and a fake one and one of the most glaring differences is the harsher grind lines on one.
I would also take a magnet to everything. Figure out what’s titanium and what’s not.
You can also do a tiny bit of scratching and make sure it’s not aluminum. Aluminum scratches way easier.
Maybe the seller hadn’t thought recognized them as fakes himself…excellent feedback. So i just returned 2 ZT 0808s about $100 each, and the seller, within 30 mins, refunded and apologized for the fakes, didn't ask for proof, and said keep the knives. I'll search the specter and haptic, thank you for the feedback Leo
totally agree, and fully believe that was what happened with my refund... does anyone want to take the piss out of me (an expression) and laugh at how stupid my purchase was? hahah.. i'll show you one of the dumbest fakes i just returned. Late hours and Jack Daniels may have been involved in my bid....Maybe the seller hadn’t thought recognized them as fakes himself…
That’s one issue with judging the seller and not the knife. Someone could definitely buy a fake, and sell it as real believing it was real.
Nice…tell me this wasn't obvious! NO logo, no serial number.......
