Falcons

Amazing pics, thanks for sharing them! Up here in Rochester, we've got some Peregrine falcons (I believe), living in a nest on top of the Kodak tower. :cool:

Same here in Syracuse. They live on top of the State Tower Building, and have definitely kept the pigeon population down.

Joezilla, as far as I know, nobody climbs this cliff as it is too steep for ordinary people
and not steep enough for eager climbers. Besides, it's too dangerous to approach
falcon's nest when they are breeding. Actually, it is so dangerous that nothing comes
near the nest that quite a large area around the nest is absolutely "safe" for small birds,
and they nest near the falcon's breeding site as they are protected against ravens
and other hawks.
There are snakes with venom, Gloydius blomhoffii and Protobothrops flavoviridis;
in Japanese, "Mamushi" and "Habu" respectively.
I know some people got bite by Mamushi. It's quite fatal sometimes.
Habu lives in Okinawa islands. Both are pit vipers.

rksoon-san, arigato! nihongo yoku dekimasune. Thanks.

Thanks, Jon_G and street_soldier. City falcons are known for their
pest control abilities. And Rochester falcons are one of the most famous
birds with their nest web cams.

Peregrines are the best pidgeon eaters around! And they love to use the artificial nesting sites that big cities have to offer way up high. Lots of North East Coast USA cities have a breeding population now. They are very beneficial to keeping the pidgeon populations in check, and thus, disease at bay. Nothing more beautiful than to watch a peregrine hunt pidgeons IMO. Once you witness the 'dive and tumblesault bite to the neck' it's all she wrote....
