So far Fallknivens laminate VG-10 seems tough. I'm going to have to wait and see how it does in the destruction test. There is only so much WOOD can reveal but I have see other people post photos of their knives chipping out and breaking on Wood and batoning wood with wood.[/QUOTE
Yes. As I see it, a destruction test should help to show how much tougher/stronger Fallkniven's laminate is (if at all) compared to good stain resistant blade steels. The test should also be indicative of how much less tough/weaker the laminate is (if at all) than good non stainless steels. The more knives tested, the greater the data base. Eventually a pattern should emerge.
The field testing has been revealing in more ways than one. From the Fallkniven website:-
(QUOTE)"There are moments when you wish to avoid reflects from your blade and then the black ceracoat 8H A1 is the option for you. This extremely tough surface will also protect the blade from any corrosion agent."(END QUOTE)
The claim "extremely tough" seems an exaggeration in light of how easily the coating came off during the field test. So, even a reputable company like Fallkniven is not immune from a little bit of overstatement sometimes.
Only a small number of people are willing to commit the time and money to do tests on performance, independent of industry hype. The curiosity of others, including myself makes us keen to see the results of this and upcoming tests.
