I've seen alot of people on this forum talk highly of the Fallkniven knives but have not yet had the opportunity to hold one in person for inspection. I'm looking for a stainless large knife for camping and all around cutting chores I may come across in the woods. I know it's a heavy knife but that doesn't bother me since it will be my main knife. I just need some positive support or other recomendation before I plop down my hard earned money:D. Thanks in advance for any advice you could share.

I have a number of Fallkniven's, including 2 A1's. I love them, and I think you will love them too. They take and hold a wicked edge and they're tough.

I have the smaller F1 and its laminated blade steel and geometry are wonderful! It's one of those knives I wouldn't mind being "stuck" with if I could only have one. I will definitely end up owning an A1 in the future.

They don't have a particular reputation for it, but the A1s are way tougher than you might expect. See Noss's knife destruction test video and you'll be ready to buy an A1!

I own a few Fallknivens..IMO, they are the best production knives made..period. I would only recomend the A2 over the A1...I bought an A1, and although its stout and tough...the A2 is a great chopper without much more weight added. I would recomend a combo setup..the H1 and the A2 can do it all...if you have smaller hands, the F1 is a fantastic knife..It is just a bit to thin in the grip for my big hands, but the H1 is perfect. If I was gonna take just 1 knife into the woods...a survival knife, the A2 is just about as perfect as it gets.

I love my Fallkniven S1. Won't go hiking or camping without it. I would get an F1 befor I got an A1, but that's just me though. I like small and sturdy.

If you're looking for a knife in the A1 size range, that one's about as good as it gets.
I have an F1 , an S1 & an A1 & they're all very good knives.
The S1 is kind of a scaled down A1.
I use the F1 most out of those three, but just because I like a knife in that size.

The A1 is the brute of those three.

i purchased an a1 due to all of the positive posts regarding this knife and make without ever handling it and im very happy with it, splits wood like a champ and fits my medium grip very well. some people dont like the rubbery grip but for myself i like it. had it for a little over a year and will probably pick up a f1 in the future.

I haven't tried the larger Fallknivens bu the two F1's I own are the perfect woods knives for my use. I don't chop as I carry a pruning saw which is safer and quicker to use. The F1 is a pretty good carving knife and will baton the size branches I'm likely to use if I'm making a fire.

Lots of people like to carry big knives but I find them rather cumbersome to use.

The A1 is a solid medium sized "do-all" knife if you're so inclined (that is to say, if you prefer to carry just one edged tool to do everything from small tasks to large ones). It's very resistant to corrosion, but also easy to sharpen. A good knife. I can't think of anything too negative to say about it. The only downside I can think of is mediocre fit and finish - you can expect slightly off grinds and all kinds of little beauty marks, but if it's going to be a user knife, then who cares. The handle is very grippy even in wet and cold. The knife comes with a good edge and nice sabre convex grind, but it's thick enough to be very hard to break even if you feel like abusing one. The steel is high carbon stainless, though, so it will chip happily if you bang it on rocks and such. The A1 is large enough to do some chopping with, and it isn't too bad for smaller stuff since it isn't that heavy or long. Overall I say go for it! The F1 from Fällkniven is certainly one of my favourite knives, and the other Fällknivens come with the same quality and smart design.

I gifted my Little Brother a satin S1, and he takes it around the world with him in his travels, atleast when he can get away with it! It is still going strong...I showed him the A2, and his jaw dropped...his first words were..."I need one of these!" Again, the A1 is an awesome blade...but I have learned that for ME, I like a smaller blade, and a BIG blade..not one in the middle. Gene
EDIT: I am currently looking to get into an S1 and A1..just to add to the collection..on top of looking for all the Northern lights series...I cant say enough about the Fallkniven line!!!
My current Fallkniven collection, A2, Frej, Idun, H1, and custom F1...

I have an H1 in 3G, an A1, and a U2. While not a great fan of stainless in general, I will say that I love these knives enough that they are the ONLY stainless knives I own other than a custom kitchen knife and a multitool.

I just got an F1 in laminated VG10 and an H1 in 3G. They are both smaller and thicker than I was expecting. If you have large hands, you might find the handles too small. I have medium hands, and they are just right for me. I plan on giving them a workout, then posting the results. They are very well made, that much is for sure.

I have a S1 and F1. These are well designed high quality knives that are very good value. I have lots of knives but often go back to the S1 for a general purpose user in the bush. I will likely purchase one or two of the larger Fallniven blades in the future.

Whilst I don't own the A1, I do own several of their other models.

After using Fallknivens extensively for a number of years now, I have no hesitation in highly recommending the brand.

What individual model will best suit your needs is going to be a personal decission, but in my experience you won't go wrong choosing a Fallkniven

Kind regards
Mick

Fallkniven is the top production choice in stainless right now. I have the A1, F1, and H1 all of them are knives design by people who seem to know what a good knife is. The edge geometries cut better, they are very strong and the VG-10 holds a good edge and the new 3G on the newer models is even better. I have yet to see an extensive review (destructive or extensive use) that the author at the end does not conclude that they are excellent. The blades are clean time honored designs and they are functional. Also check their website, they perform ultimate strength testing and they publish it so I think they are a responsible manufacturer.

Fallkniven is as good as it gets, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one. I would suggest that one thins the edges out though, the cutting performance is dramatically increased.

Can't go wrong with any of them. I only own an F1 (but I have used the S1 from a friend of mine) and I suspect any of his big brothers are just as good. Sheaths could be dramatically improved though... kydex comes to my mind. You can buy aftermarket kydex sheaths (from Nomark for example).

Personally, I think Fallknivens are top notch. I prefer the F1 to the A1, but great choice.

A lot of people seem to dislike the sheaths, I for one like em' though. I've always gone with the zytel, I've found it to be simple, lightweight, compact and very secure. :)

ETA: Normarks sheaths (among many others) are fantastic however.
