I'd been debating for a while about which fixed-blade knife to get to serve as my "all-around" hiking and woods bumming knife. After seeing the knife Trooper made up using a Fallkniven F1 blade, my mind was made up! Today I ordered the F1 blade, some olive green canvas micarta scales, corby rivets and a stainless steel thong hole tube. When I get it finshed, I'll post some photos here for all to see.

I know I won't be disappointed with my new knife!

I think it's cool that Fallkniven sells unfinished blades. An enterprising craftsman could make a few spare bucks putting nice handles on them. It would be cool to develop a handle that has a firesteel in it. Get a sheath from Normark too.

Wow...had no idea they sold knife blanks! Sweet! Would be even nicer if they made an A1 blank! :)

(falls out of his seat)

Ron53,

Do you have a link to the knife you described above that Trooper made?

Ron,
Where are you getting your Olive Green Micarta from? Ive been looking for this stuff for a while. the only green ive been able to get a hold of is more of a non natural looking green

here's an S1 that I purchased as a "blank" and sent to STR for a lignum vitae handle....

WOW! I like it a lot.....I don't need another knife, I don't need another knife, I don't need another knife...sigh, but I WANT another knife...

Well, I received my F1 blade, and it is beautiful! I also received my olive green micarta scales, stainless steel corby rivets and thong tube, so I'm ready to get started! Hopefully, I will have my knife completed by sometime next week. I will post pics when it is finished. I can already tell this is going to be my favorite field knife!

mmmotorcycle, the H1 blade is $91.95 plus shipping from Knifecenter.com. My F1 was $77.95.

You're gonna love your F1. I'm jealous of all of y'all that have one.

Survivalholland! That is a NICELY done handle. Love the curves. And Ilbruche, your handles are always good stuff.

Aside... IMO, (opinion alert, isn't worth the paper its typed on except to me), a handle has to have organic curves that make it melt into your hand. A knife is a tool that sometimes gets used for extensive time periods. Bushcraft requires a lot of repetitive cuts. Notching, peeling bark, fuzz sticks, etc. Look at your tools. Check your chisels, screwdrivers, hammers, hand saws, and GUNS. How many of them have slim handles with square edges? Today there are a lot of knives that overlook this. Tactical knives are designed properly. They have guards to prevent your hand slipping up on the blade, they contour into your hand really well, and are grippy as hell. (Busse does this really well.) But for some reason, bushcraft knife handles haven't cought up with the tacticals here IMHO.

Andy, agree with your handle assessment 100%! I will be "de-horning" the sharp "points" on my F1's handle, and will be rounding off and contouring the olive micarta handle scales. I do this to all my knives...even my inexpensive pocketknives!
