Fallkniven F1 "Kit"

How is the F1 coming? Id love to see some pictures when your done. Im thinking about making a similar setup.

Here's my F1 that I got as a blank and put black linen Micarta slabs, w/red spacers, on it. Saved about $ 100.00 doing it myself.

Very nice Troop. How hard is it to work the Micarta? Did you just do everything by hand and eye or did you use some form? Was everything else on the blade finished?

This may be the way I get into a F1.

Micarta is the most durable handle material around. So, for a Bushcraft knife, it's great. If your blade gets stuck somehow while you're using it, you might just have to pound on the handle to unstick it. Now the bad news....make sure you wear a good respirator. The dust is toxic; work with it outside, or make sure you have a vacuum set up. It smells horrible when you work it.
As far as working with it, just finish it by eye, just like working with any other slab material. The blank was finished up to the point where the tang began; in other words, from the ricasso back, or maybe a little farther back, on the tang, it came rough...you have to finish it yourself. But, no big deal. All you need to finish is the "spine" of the tang. Also, I would not recommend SS corby rivets...If you are just a little off with fitting them together, they'll strip. Use either brass corbies, or just plain 'ol brass or SS rod.
It's very satisfying doing the handle yourself; you can fit them exactly to your hand...not to mention saving 100 bucks!

Very cool. Thanks for the information. This may be the first kit I will get and try. Thanks for reminding me about the Micarta dust. I actually knew that but had forgotten.
