Fallkniven F1 PRO

No clue why mine bent so easily. It shouldn't now, yet it still pierces well.

Great that You sorted it out!

I have a pair of knives with identical blades (not FK).
One bent the tip under light pressure, the other one did not.
I did what You did and fixed a new tip, no problems since then.

I think Mete is right, it could be overheating from grinding the blade at the factory.
It's not funny when it happens, but personally I don't claim any warranty and just sharpen it out.
Not without foul langage though!
I know others think differrently and for those the warranty is of course very important.

I bought it due to the lifetime warranty, I was disappointed when peter told me it wasn't covered. But I doubt I'll ever have issues regardless. I've been using it plenty, batonned rather hard, and its holding up fine. Even with such a thin edge batonning hard oak, it held up very well. I'm really liking this steel so far! Now I want an s1 pro!!!

I'm curious as to why he said it was not covered under the lifetime warranty. Can you please share what you remember?

He said because it was not bought from an authorized dealer, I bought it from amazon. Which I find dumb, considering it's still their knife!

Fällkniven raised their pricelist by 40% from Januari 2017!
Maybe it's still possible to find dealers selling from the old prices.
I'm happy that I have got a fair number of FK's, when the prices were more tolerable.
The knives though are really good and easily found almost allover the world, without a waiting list.

FK warranty is a bit confusing.
They offer lifetime warranty on the Pro series, but they can't advertize this in certain markets, due to the laws against lifetime warranty's.
Otherwise they offer a 10 year warranty but only from authorized dealers, but who are authorized and who are not?
That's not easy for a consumer to find out.

On top of that, in Sweden there's always a two year warranty on all products sold in the country.
This means any producer have to warrant and take care of a production failure, as long as You can show the receipt.

A side note:
I know from personal contact, that FK prefer to discretely take care of their warranty claims, if the customer email them directly and in the first place.
I will probably not have any issues with questioning the authorized dealer thing, as I bought the F1 Pro directly from Fällkniven HQ in Sweden... ( at full price).

Do they ask where things are purchased from? I have rarely sent anything with a lifetime warranty back, but I generally don't keep receipts around, or remember where I bought stuff years later. Lifetime warranty stuff I expect to be warrantied by the maker's mark, not a receipt.

I have only used the FK warranty once.
It was ten years ago when I bought my first FK.
I spoke to Peter over the phone and he said: "Send it back and I'll have a look".
He didn't ask for the receipt, but he knew the dealer I bought it from, so no problems there.
I sent it to FK and a week later, a new knife arrived at the postoffice!

Fallkniven's warranty has changed more than once. At one time it was hard to find on their website. Per website, right now they only warranty blades bought from authorized dealers for only ten years and state you need to save your receipt.

I've never saved a knife receipt, do you?

I never have kept any receipts. But I doubt I'll ever have a problem. The only issue I'm having now, is deciding which knife to get next, I'm in love with the volcano, but I'm also liking the a1 pro. The volcano seems like the perfect outdoor/hunting skinning blade.

Hi. Several years ago, just after I got my “old” F1, I remember there was a discussion in an Italian knives forum where one member reported a similar experience of tip bending. He was an amateur archer, wo liked practicing in the woods behind his house. He reported that, using an F1 to pry free an arrowhead from an oak tree, the tip of his knife bent “slightly”. Besides being attacked by a hoard of fanboys shouting at him he was an idiot not to use a proper arrow puller :D, the interesting discussion was about FK reply to his e-mail, which made (and still make) a lot of sense, for me at least. The message was more or less this: “Our blades should not bend but under xyz lateral force(FK provided tested values at that time on their web-site and I think they still do) but they bend – at these values – rather than snap/brake. This is done on purpose and is one of the reason for the “sandwich” construction. It’s easier to fix a bent tip rather than a broken one in a survival scenario”. It was many years ago and, for me, the only time I ever came across such an issue with the F1. Chipping (micro and not so micro ;)) has been an issue with FK, I had some significant ones on my “old” A1 myself, but never experienced a bending tip. Glad you fixed your issue!

This is a repost from something I did on another site. But it seemed like a good fit here.

The 7th One Knife Challenge just came to an end.

And while I myself did poorly. Bailing early for weather and travel reasons. It reminded me of something.
I really like Fallkniven knives.

Even though I stepped out of the challenge. I continued to use my knife of choice for the entire 31 days. It impressed me from start to finish.

My knife of choice was the Fallkniven F-1 Pro.

It just took everything in stride.

From food,

to Figure 4s,

It just goes about its tasks and never complains. No drama, no unexpected surprises.

That has been my experience with every Fallkniven I have had the pleasure to use.

We even had a few cold ones together,

And thanks to the weather, even a couple really cold ones,

I did not accomplish what I had hoped to in the challenge. But that was no fault of the Knife’s. The blame lies solely on my shoulders.

Never once did I find myself wishing I had chosen a different knife.

That looks cold around there and you've got the perfect knife for it I see. While I don't have an F1 Pro I do have a original F1. How do you like that little beast? I'm wanting to pick up an A1 Pro this year and wouldn't mind having the F1 Pro as well. I also have my eye on the Idun which is pretty sweet. Thanks for the review and pics.

I wouldn't hesitate to pick my F1 in original, unspectacular good old VG-10 as my only survival knife. Considering the considerable price differential with the no doubt excellent laminated steels, I think I'd still go for VG-10. (I'd also seriously consider the Mora Garberg, which is now available in a Sandvik "high carbon steel" although Mora doesn't say what it is (1070 or 1095 are most likely), as well as the excellent Sandvik 14C28N.)

Guys, do you have rust issue with your F1 pros? Mine seem to get rust spots once there is no oil on it.

The tip broke very easily for me as well. I was battoning pine tree, finished and stuck my blade into one block, but when I removed it with slight twisting motion (there was not much of resistance), the tip broke..

Bought it through knivesandtools.de and they want me to pay for fixing it ...o_O

Well that's a first for me, did you beat on the tip alot when batoning. While I've seen a lot of reviews on these knives and batoning online I've never seen or heard of this happening. I've got a few Fallknivens and have not had any rusting issues. I'd send it back to Fallkniven for repair.

If you baton wood quite often I think I would invest in an S1Pro or A1 Pro or wilderness knife for more toughness thickness in the tip if your going to be using said knife for splitting/batoning wood. Still though this can happen to any knife beat on enough I would assume.

Rust and easy tip breaking? Maybe a lemon. I’d also talk to Fallkniven. They’ve been known to investigate unusual occurrences to see if it was a manufacturing error.

I have the TK2...and no experience with it or the F1 Pro.
Of course, both are great knives; the TK2 seems to have a better grip for MY hand.
