Howdy all,

Ive been looking at the fallkniven f1 knife and must say i am very impressed. I might end up getting one but figured id ask on here for other peoples thoughts and comments.

I tried i quick search for reviews and saw it came up as a well regarded knife.

Id love to hear what you all have to say about this knife, good or bad.

and if anyone knows of a good retailer im willing to hear!

One of my favorite knives is the F1. If you like convex grinds and know how to sharpen them, get one. Take your pic of places to buy them, prices vary from place to place. Also check out the ESEE line of knives. They are similar in some ways, but use a v-grind which may be easier for some folks to sharpen. I prefer carbon steel to stainless, but to each his own.

i agree the prices do vary quite a bit from what ive seen. Now im just trying to see which works out to be the cheapest for me.

Try Knifeworks; quick shipping and they had the best price I found on the F1 (got mine a couple of days ago) in VG10 steel; they have the 3G, too, but much more money.

Based on what I've heard, you shouldn't be disappointed. Make sure you're ok with sharpening that convex edge though :)

Knifecountry-$125.78. Knifeworks-104.95 + $8.00 shipping.

Sorry i should have specified that i was in Canada.

The shipping for knife country is cheaper for me, knifeworks' shipping was 30 bucks :S

Sucks that the knife is just that much more expensive when you factor in shipping

I have looked into a few threads on here on sharpening convex knives, but is there something you recommend over the rest?

I have an F1, and really love it. I didn't like the convex edge though, cause I can't sharpen it worth a dang. So, I took out my trusty Lansky, and put a good edge on it. It wasn't hard, and it cuts just as good for me. The edge stay's sharp a good long time. I have the VG10 steel on it. It's a great hunting knife, and works well for skinning. It's a great hard use knife that I don't have to worry about scratching or denting the handle. It's one of my go to knives for hunting, and camping.

Lots of people here said the Knivesshipfree sharpening kit with the strop and compound is the thing to get; I ordered one myself, but it's not here yet.

Mousepad/sandpaper combo works well (I have mine glued to a paint stick, easier to use that way). And, you can't beat a cheap 1x30" belt sander with a nice collection of belts from Lee Valley. There's a bit of a learning curve with this method, but practice on some cheap kitchen knives, and you'll pick it up in no time. And the F1 is a great choice. I'd love to have mine back, but the handle was just a little thin. So I went with the H1, and am happy.

I know where you can get a used one for a great deal. Email me through the boards and I'll point you in the right direction. It's another forum member and he's a good guy (he got the knife from me) ;)

I've never heard anything negative about a Fallkniven so I'm sure you'll be more than happy with your purchase.
Good luck!

got mine here (fallkniven f1 vg10) on blade forums for 75 bucks. Awesome deal for an awesome knife. Very sharp, great ergonomics, and good for camping, bushcraft, pretty much anything except chopping. You wont be disappointed.

I think they are over thick, clunky and come, as in the case of the F1, with the worst handle in the industry.

If you thin the edge, convex it, and put on a decent handle, there are ok, but still not really a great knife.

May I ask what knife you would choose instead?

Bought my son an F1 for his Birthday. He loves it very much. Whenever I hold it, the grip fits my hand like a glove. I guess I'll have to buy one.

H1 is better. TK1 is miles and miles better :)

It is true, btw, that the Fallkniven knives are thick. Possibly too thick. But it is for making them good at splitting
