What would you gentlemen consider to be an ideal kicking around the lake cabin knife? Seeing the Fallkniven S1 highly rated, love Bark River and respect customs. Any ideas?

the possibilities are endless.

the fallkniven and bark river are both very nice, and will likely serve you well.

the only true limit here is your budget.

I've never owned a Fallkniven, but heard a lot of good things about them.

I do own a few Bark Rivers, and they are TOP NOTCH all the way. (I especially love my Northstar)

ive never owned a fallkniven either, but got the opportunity to "play" with one on a camping trip. great feel and ergos. great blade shape, very sharp.

my only contention was the sheath. seemed cheap, though it is functional.

You truly can't go wrong with these two brands. My nod would go to the BRKT.

Another nod for Bark River. A friend has an F1 and I like it, but I would like to someday get an A1 or S1 Falknivven.

I have a couple of BRKT's, including a Bravo 1. It is a great knife.
BRKT, no doubt, makes great knives.

Also have a Fallkniven F1 and S1, both great knives also!

I wouldn't want to choose among them, but I will say a couple of things -

the Fallknivens are laminated VG-10 and are just unbelievably tough knives.
Also, they're stainless. Convexed and ridiculously sharp.

The S1 at 5" is one heavy duty blade.
I think if the SHTF I'd grab the S1.

I like the S1

Kicking around the lake cabin knife...... got to be the Bark River Canadian Special. At home in the woods or in the kitchen, check them out:thumbup:

The Fallkniven F1 is a "no frills" knife. It's a very functional and strong knife. Made with "survival" in mind. It just works...:D
All BRKT knives are also very well build, and extremely strong. Only thing is, they have so much options in handle material, and models. They probably are more attractive to buy then a F1.

A S1 with yellow G10 handle and the old kydex sheath would be fun :)
But in the meantime I have to make do with some of the other 27 Fällknivens I have lying around :)

If you are mainly living in the cabin my choice would be:
Fällkniven F1 or WM1 in your belt as EDC/survival. The WM1 with leather sheath looks so cute.
Fällkniven S1 or A1 in your pack or in the cabin for light/medium chopping.
A Hultafors, Wetterling, Gränsfors or other good quality axe for heavy chopping.
A Bahco folding saw in your pack and a decent saw in the cabin.

Get an S1 and have Bark River re-handle it for you! Now, that's a knife!

I might be mistaken, but I though BK&T stopped that service.
There are 5 custom S1's that can be had over here:

I think the blade of the S1 is as good as it gets, but have some trepidation of the ugliness of the standard handle. I agree the above provides a best of both worlds but at extra cost. Interestingly enough, the BK&T custom handled F1 at the above site is cheaper than the Fallkniven black mircata version.

The Fallkniven Fry NL4 is another 5.2" laminated blade with a stacked leather handle and nice looking alternative.

Bark River Bravo 1 has become my favorite around the camp, in the woods knife. 4.25" is a good size for all around carry.

Look to Bark River. There is a HUGE variety and they are excellent users as well as being an aesthetic pleasure. I have a Mini Canadian and Northstar, and would love to get ahold of a Lil Nessy.
