On the Fallkniven site it has this in the description

A modern folding knife should be cleaned regularly with warm water and detergent. Oil and fat should as far as possible be avoided, since today's knives have self-lubricating bearings.

Does this mean you never have to lubricate this knife?

Well, I add a drop of oil to mine.

But I can see the issue, since the plastic handle is a petroleum product and petrol products can degrade plastics.

I'm assuming that since the company so states, lubrication isn't needed. Perhaps I should reconsider oiling mine. Hmmm.

i use wd 40 on my blades, and also to lubricate the locks of different folders i have
ive had no problems so far, and il continue using it
zytel, frn, g-10, no damage done

It means the U2 has a polymer pivot bearing. Doesnt need oil.

Food grade mineral oil works well for any knife. Lubes and protects without petroleum.

Teflon, that you use for your non-stick pans, is used for bearings.

Just as you do not need to use oil in your teflon pan to prevent sticking, so also you do not need oil if teflon (or a similar material) is used for bearings.

It's a very fine knife with a real super steel ! I haven't taken mine apart but many knives have a bushing of Nylatron which is nylon impregnated with molybdenum disulfide which needs no oil..

AFAIK, mineral oil is a petroleum product.

Not sure why petroleum products are supposed to be bad for knives, though.

Generally, self lubricating bearings need no additional lubrication. Generally, I find user lubrication on knives to be superfluous at best. Sometimes causing more trouble than not.

One other thing is that the oil of any kind gathers dust and sand and eventually degrades the bearings. You would probably not feel it in 200 years or so, but the issue still stands.

which clipits can be disassembled, all the ones I had were made with pins. I can't see any washers on my caly jr., and I can't take it apart.

The plastics on all but the cheapest junk knives are not harmed by lubricating oils, petroleum or otherwise.

There are a huge number of lubes and cleaners .It is always a good idea when using them near plastics to test them in a small area of the plastic.

VG-10/3G/VG-10 .... VG-10 is by itself an excellent steel and is used in other Fallkniven knives.
