For the price, it's a great knife. I think the only issue with the 420J2 is that it scratches a little easier than some of the other laminates used.

it arrived!

...lubricated with oil
probabl the shopkeeper who didnt knew

also it's out of the box sharpness is alot higher then those moras who also arrived

in fact, it is without doubt the sharpest knife i have at the moment

here it is with its (big) brother the F1

the sharpmaker!

hehe, i still think it costs a fortune, but after hearing so much about it, i have to try it out

but feeling the ultra fine grid of those stones, it seems like it really can live up to its hype
it's way finer than my 1200 sandpaper anyway

in the documentation they dont mention the grid of the stones

anybody got an idea?

maybe i shud make a new thread about that

i think the main reason the U2 sells so well, is its price .

so if they move to G3 ánd it becomes more expensive, it wont sell so good.

then ppl might be thinking of jumping imediately to a TK3 or something for a folder, and decide the whole fällkniven folder range is too expensive alltogeter and not buy anything

Have you seen the price of PXL folder of Fallkniven ? Enough said.

i suppose i now gotto ask what the gold stands for in VG-10 :p

yeah the price of the PXL is just over the top

they don't have an actual grit rating because of the nature of the ceramic media, but they produce results similar to 800 (medium) and 1200 (fine) waterstones, as observed by several people who viewed edges under magnification.

i suppose 1200 grit waterstones are not comparable to 1200 grit sandpaper, because the edge it produces is alot finer

Well, that's subjective. CLAD metal construction is difficult and expensive. Keep in mind that the PXL is a folder and a 3.5" blade; I see it listed for around $170-$180. Pricey, maybe, but not over the top. Perhaps, it's that Micarta that seems to add more to the price of their knives than some might like. They do mention on their site that they are coming out with other handle materials for this knife.

The smaller G3-bladed (2.75") TK3, which I considered getting as a match pairing for the TK1, runs $130-$150. But, I'm waiting for the PXL in Cocobolo... :)

The prices don't really phase me for small run semi-custom knives made of these materials and construction methods, with convex ground edges, and stainless HRC62 blades that are still relatively flexible. Besides, I think they're really onto something with their VG10 and G3 laminated blades.

BTW, if they get it shipped out today, I may also have an NL3 (Njord) to join the TK1 at the end of the week. Fall is coming and time to expand that fixed blade collection... :)

Speaking of gold - the gold on the three crowns on my TK-1 has already come off !! But it's a user and it's been modified too.

Yes, BIG difference.

FK TK3 for $132: http://www.knifesupply.com/eshop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=FNTK3

FK PXL Micarta handle for $164:
http://www.keenzo.com/showproduct.asp?ID=1317520
(BTW, Keenzo shows sold out until 8/30, but I've seen it for about $10 more on some other sites.)

Keep in mind that these sites are not the best for EVERY knife in the FK line. BTW, if they have problems with international shipping, just let me know and I'll do it for cost for you - as long as it's not against my law or your law. 'Course, you got the shipping.. :)
