Family Fun in Moab!

You don't mess around do you:cool: I see to many pretty new jeeps riding around, we like to call them urban 4wd's, but you my friend know how to do it!

Congrats:)

My favorite name for that kind of jeep is "mall crawler". I made the decision the day I bought it that it would get used for its intended purpose.:D

Awesome pics man! I went to Moab a few years back and did the Arches NP thing. Beautiful part of the world. Thanks for sharing. :)

I forgot to add, I grew up driving a 1973 Toyota FJ cruiser, so I spent my youth off roading.

I almost put my money down for a new (used low miles) FJ cruiser instead of the Xterra, but my wife was convinced that the clam shell rear door meant it would be too small for two kids in the back.

The version with the rear lockers is actually a great off road vehicle stock.

Instead, this is what I ended up with.

The dunes in my home town.
This hill was right on the lake, the down side of this dune had my whole family and the brother's boat parked.

This little stream crossing is out where we go shooting, and we make a point of driving through it every time. It some times gets as deep as the bumper. Lots and lots (and I mean years and years worth) of seeing guys get stuck in is. Always gives us a good laugh.

Lots of times, it is guys who think they don't need their 4 wheel drive (which you don't part of the year, where it is more shallow like this photo). We always laugh when some one goes in in 2x and they have to get out and lock their hubs.

I think when my old sedan finally goes (only 70,000k right now, may take a while),

I am going to try and convince the wife we need one of those with a third row seat. Even though I have been leaning toward a full sized 4 door pick up, a jeep would be so much fun.

In addition to the FJ cruiser I used to drive. I had a soft top jeep for a few, and after that a full sized Bronco with a 351 and 1 ton axles that was fun off road.

Tyson, thanks for those pics man. I really like the Xterra and I even test drove the FJ before I drove the Jeep. I came to the same conclusion you did though on the FJ, that the rear seat was nearly useless with those little clam shell doors. As soon as I drove the jeep with the top off I was sold.

If you can convince the wife I would grab a wrangler in a heart beat if I were you. All my kids ask every day is if they get to go in "daddy's jeep". It has been a fun vehicle for the whole family to enjoy.

I looked at those, and wanted one, but the price was just too much at the time. I need a few years and hopefully I can find one used at a better price. There are a ton driving around here that never see dirt.

Awesome brother!

Glad to finally see the pics of you, the family, and your new Rubicon:cool:

If I knew that bad boy had a third row... I might not have gotten the Land Rover:confused:

Soulrack, the kids were definitely not in the Jeep for Hell's Gate. I almost didn't go up it myself so having the kids in was out of the question..

Glad to hear that ;):D Of course we knew better anyway

Very cool Pics, family, and Jeep.

Jeeps have come along way since the 72 CJ5 I used to have, and that's a good thing.

Nice Jeep, great scenery, good looking family, and I'll take your word on the B11 in the back. Good to see the Jeep being driven like it was meant to be. I bought a new 1998 Dodge Ram 4x4. Picked it up Valentine's Day of 1998. In June of the same year, right before I got married, my cousin and I took it 4 wheeling in Linville George ("Grand Canyon of the East") and I never got stuck. I did drive through a mud hole with a center track deep enough to bend the steps. The jack rails on the frame cut into the rubber coating on the steps. The guys at the dealership were not happy when it was time for the next oil change:D Ah, good time, good times...

Great pics bro, I have always admired your Busse collection but you are truely blessed with a beautiful family.

I know I'm going to take flak for this... but honestly I can't believe you had your kids in the Jeep doing this (I thought maybe it was a photoshop, actually). Rollovers during this sort of thing can be horrendous, and deadly. Gamble with your life all you want but I honestly believe it's a little irresponsible to gamble with your children's lives.

And yes, I have a child. I'm not trying to attack you Oeser. I'm sure they enjoyed it, but would you have, had you rolled your vehicle and injured one of them?

Again, normally I wouldn't say anything but I honestly do have the children's best interest in mind. My apologies in advance, as I know you and others might be mad at me for pointing this out, but I mean no ill toward you.

You gotta be kidding me? You couldn't find a single camo shirt with the sleeves cut out to put on one of those kids while you were out 4 wheeling? :)

I understand where you are coming from and trust me neither the kids nor my wife were in the jeep while I did anything dangerous at all. The friend I went with, who was leading our group also had his kids in with him. He has been going for more than 20 years and owns a company called Moab Outfitter, which should tell you he Jeeps a lot. Any time we got to anything even remotely dangerous his family and mine would get out and watch, then walk up to us and get back in.

Trust me when I say, I value my families life more than my own and would never do anything to cause them any harm. All of the pics you see with the kids in the jeep are very mellow areas and were just like a stroll in the park for my jeep.

Thanks for your concern but rest assured, I am not that crazy. :)

Edit to say: if you notice, there are no kids in the jeep in the fourth and fifth pic from the top.

Man, we tried but no luck. They did have some sleeveless mesh belly shirts but just not the right size. :D

My daughters shirt kind of looks like she's from the 80's though, if that counts. ;):p

Hey Jared, I'm going to jump on board with the others and compliment you on the great jeep pics and good looking family!

You weren't kidding when you said the littles ones have been keeping you occupied! Keep up the good work!
