A question for the owner, is that faux tortoise, or the real deal? I've never handled or seen real in person, and it has always been one of my favorites to look at.

I was given the material from the estate of a knife maker from Oregon and after confirming it was real from another maker who deals in tortoise I gave the go ahead for Jim to use it. It was his first time to use gold foil also. With apologies to this thread I offer 2 close up views of each side.

gorgeous! :)

Jimmy, when I researched this knife last year (it was given to me in a box of "stuff" - old cheap scopes, cheap knives, parts and pieces from gun cleaning kits, etc. from an estate). This is what I found; it was advertised in 1969 and made/sold by Schrade Walden in 1970 & 1971. There was a folding hunter too, both had unusual scabbards. Here is a picture of my knife with the scabbard and an advertising sheet I found on-line. OH

I found this too from 1969, it shows the Jack Knife (folding hunter type knife) and the Bowie Knife, but is not a very detailed picture. OH

Thanks KBA!

Thanks Brisket, glad it helps you out! I have an ongoing thread on my soddie collection with lots more comparison photos and information over here if you are interested.

Love those Schrades Old hunter!

Jimmy, you can do some damage in the woods with that set, very nice!

Hope guys keep posting pics, loving all these! Codger should post up his Sharpfinger collection, that's impressive!

Thanks for all the info... interesting! :)
You seem to have a very nice condition specimen, especially when one considers the way it landed into your hands... nice! :)

Btw, I am loving all the pics and different knives turning up in this thread :)

Linus - I remember trying to find you an ebony TC. Your family has grown up healthy.

Yeah it has, hasn't it? With my condition, I'm not sure how long I'll get to enjoy it so I thought I'd better get off my butt and get to it!!!! Got a couple more in the mail and then I should be done till the forum knife comes along :)

Wow that 85 Osage Orange is stunning and here I didn't think I really liked that wood. The EZ open and lanyard hole just puts that one over the top.

What a set of 85's!! I have to agree with Brisket, I'm not normally a fan of Osage but that one looks real good!!

Thanks Brisket. I looked for a long time for that one and probably paid too much for it but what the heck, my kids will have a great estate sale one day!

Loving the "Fish Family", particularly the one on the far right. Could you give a little more information about it?
