as far as I can see, the reason he was probably banned, was he carried an arguement from one thread into another thread that the individual he was targeting started on about the same subject. The fact that he was targeting the guy could be considered a personal attack, or harrassment. I don't know if the Mods had seen similar behavior before, or if this was a new thing- I only read the last few posts in question.

I was banned once when I was new, because I was arguing in the general forum (being mighty foolish, I might add)
but I got that straightened out. Maybe Steve Poll can too.:cool:
 
I would think a 30 day cooling off period would be a *useful tool* for the Mods...something stronger than talking to yourself, but not quite the full throttle.

It could be used quietly...no announcement, no public humilliation, just a simple time out.

Just my $.02...but then, I'm not a Mod (here anyway).


No...I don't know the particulars of Steve's case...and I don't have to answer for anyone either. Modding is *not* an easy thing...

Yeah, most other places have something like that. I think overall Bladeforums is overmoderated, and that people are touchier here than almost any of the other places I go. I don't really care about it but it is something one has to keep in mind.
 
Bummer him getting banned...Seemed like a kewl dude to me

not my place to say if he had it coming or not...BUT I will say that i have seen message boards that are moderated far more harshly than this one

I hope he can come back after a bit

not only more harshly, but sometimes quite irrationally even against the stated rules because the uber mod "was always right"... forget to kowtow everytime and you were dead. even paid members. that caused enough friction to generate about 5 new boards that weren't as hostile, and people moved.

i think it's pretty good here overall though. i'll stay out of the politics and stay a happier paid user - i pay because i care :>

Heh...usually when someone's banned it's quite clear the reason why...either they're a flaming *&#!!!! or a spammer. Steve is neither, so it's a bit hard for me to understand. I appreciate that there's no tolerance for personal attacks here, but what he said didn't look that severe to me.


That being said...sometimes refs have to make a call that's unpopular, or simply hard for people to understand. Alot of times there's information that isn't widely known, or something they know to watch for.


I understand and respect that this is Sparks house, and his Mods are the people he's chosen to maintain it.

That being said...I think Steve was a real decent sort with alot to contribute.

I'd like to see 'im here again some day.
 
He's got a rage against LEO's. Justified or not I have no idea.
If he stayed in the forums (H.I., knifemaking) that don't have much interaction with leo's he might have had no problems.

Being an irascible, outspoken curmudgeon myself, I am concerned that I might step over an unknown line and have a problem.

Sure would appreciate it if someone has an answer? PM me if necessary.

I would understand if Steve P seemed to be a bad guy, but I find nothing offensive in his posts.

I am sure there is a logical reason. Oftentimes there is a behind-the-scenes problem that we never see.

There is not enough money in the world to tempt me into becoming a mod! But I sure do appreciate the guys who are mods.

It must be like being a cop, for which I am grateful they are there, but would not want their job.

Nor a preacher. I realize that I am babbling here, but I have a few churchs as tenants and the preachers have a very tough job.

Anyway, what happened to Steve?
 
I don't really care for this...I know now why he got banned-but I've got two guys who do the same to me over in wine & cheese,but are they banned? no,no their not :grumpy:

There run by a different set of rules...

Basically...sink or swim...if you can't take it...don't go there....

IN other parts of the forum...folks like ot keep things civil...

You noticed., Huh :D ......Normally it's best to let a guy vent his spleen, rather than to argue. My brother-in-law absolutely hates cops. When I tell him I'm a cop, he says "That's different!".....Go figure.

all cops are to be looked upon with suspicion. except the ones that are my buddies. they're people. some of them are the hawtness too :) a friend of mine that is a local PD gets hassled in his sport by other cops that don't know he's a cop, and some of them won't even apologize when they find out. *grin*

seriously though, people is people. many people are quite fine.

A good friend will tell you if you got a booger hanging from your nose, a good moderator will give you similar consideration. Can't agree or disagree with Steve's banishment, not my place to do so, nor do I have all the facts, but I'm for fairly certain it wasn't done lightly or arbitrarily. What I can say, and without any reservations, is that we've got great mods in this forum. Lets hear it for Howard, Munk, Yvsa, and Yangdu, hip hip HUZZAH!!! :thumbup: :D
