Hi Chris,
The 4" D3 will be around 60rc, the 3" 4v I will have to let you know closer to the time. They are all cutting tools and nothing that anyone can or should pry with, but you know that, to try and answer your question a little more in detail the D3 is a good tool steel made the conventional way and the CPM-4v is a powder steel as you know. The 4v is tougher and will cut better but that's not to say D3 is not a high performance tool steel in any way as I use it for cutting competitions and it stands up to the punishment just fine.
Take care my friend

Sounds like the start of a good year Fardi, congratulations and I wish you much continued success.

If the v4 K2 will be another high HRC Farid knife, then I am looking forward to having one. Farid, I know you will heat treat this steel to get the most HC possible so count me in for one. Thank you, my friend.

Thanks, closer to the time I will start a list. Just so everyone knows I only had one medium size sheet of CPM-4v to water jet profile the blades out of so the first run will be a limited run.

Farid what happend with the k2 in d3, you finish that

I am in the middle of that project right now, I will work on that D3 K2 project which I started last year until end of the month and then it will be placed on hold for a few weeks, at the beginning of April I will start to work on getting ready for BLADE, as soon as I come back from BLADE I will finish the D3 K2 project asap.

Great info so far. I am looking around for something new and this has piqued my interest.

Is this thread going to be updated as info trickles in, or will you be making new threads for each significant update, hrc numbers, pre order locations, batches done, things like that?
I want to know if I should subscribe to this thread, or follow your posts.

Oh, and for the rest of us nosy knife knuts, what is in your edc rotation atm, in regards to knives?

Hello Bill,

The list for this batch of large 4.5" blade D3 K2 was closed long ago, but if you like to have a custom K2 I will be building a large batch of 4" custom K2's starting in April so you can in time when they are finished have one of them, they will all be tip up carry. Specs and pictures to be released at a later date, these will all be D3 tool steel as well, after these are built I will start a large batch of 3" custom K2's in CPM-4v.

At a later date as and when I am ready I will start a list on here for both sizes and you may add your name to the list. If you specifically like to have a Large K2 which is the original size, you may in 2016 I will be building a large batch of them in a steel grade to be released at a later date, you may also add your name to this list.

To answer your question on my edc. the only time I carry a knife is when I go to climb a mountain, I carry a custom K2.
take care

I am still here for the large 4.5 D3 K2. If a 4in blade will come in 4v, I might be into that too if there are some design differences other than blade length and steel type. The 3in sounds.. small O_O That puts OAL at like 7in, which for me/my hands is just a bit too small to feel "good in hand".

Farid- no daily carry O_O Not even a SAK? crazy! :D

And out of curiosity, what are you taking to show/sell at Blade? I hate how Blade attendees get special attention, when lots of us non-attendees show year round support and would love more knives available to purchase :)

Take care, later!

The 4.6" K2 is going to happen in 2016, blade steel I can not release the grade yet. The 4" K2 will be D3 and you can have one as I am making a large batch, 3" will be 4v.
I am taking 4" D3 to Blade which is exactly what I can offer you, a Prototype for Sal and Eric at Spyderco and one display size titanium custom K2 which has proportions which are just absolutely giant.

I'm just excited to hear about a tip-up version in the works! The only thing that kept me from getting a K2 was the number of times I have carried a tip-down folder and been stabbed in the leg or put holes in my pants because the blade had been jostled out of the handle. Tip-up means the blade rests along the inside edge of my pocket and won't inadvertently open.

Sign me up for one of those 4" monsters :)

That 3" sounds good to me. I hope that the grip is at least 4.3" or longer. A small Sebenza (grip less than 4") is too short for me to carry at all.
Thanks. Keep us informed about that sign-up list for the 3".
Nice work, Farid.
Don
