Farm Life

Ok, thanks. That's some good size fish to clean & prepare for supper. I think your the Only one this Spring who posted a catch of fish for us to gaught at. Good job. Maybe others caught some but haven't posted a photo. DM

Today I'm planting dual purpose shrubs. Soil conservation plants as well as flowering food for the bees. These were Honey Suckle shrubs purchased for wife's Mothers Day. Then today I cleared a area in our planter box, gathered some goat manure and planted them. The Saw Buck helped out. Every house whether farm or suburban should have one of these. A very useful tool. That's some over grown Rabbit Rubber bush I cut out of the way to give the Honey Suckle room. Then as it grows it can climb
on up the Rabbit bush. Hope these make thru our winter. DM

If you're Honeysuckle are the same as we have here, they're likely to take over the whole county by next spring...

I spent 3 or 4 weekends this spring cutting, shredding and burning honeysuckle. Those that I didn't grind or dig the roots yet are already 3 feet tall again. They're great for bees, but drown everything else out on the property. I have 2 redbud trees that look like something out of a Tim Burton movie thanks to the honeysuckle.

If you want more; you're more than welcome to come dig them up at my place. If you don't mind the drive to KY that is...

Mt Pokt, you also get 60" of rain a year. It spreads by runners not seeds. I wouldn't mind chopping-- thinning some out. We are
accessing if there is enough forage food for bees and think we need to help them.
Gunstock, you caught some very nice rainbows. Plus, a bonus finding a 110 in good condition. I'd say your fishing trip was
a big success. DM

Don't all channel catfish have spots on the body with a white underbelly? Regular flathead catfish have a dark green tone top body with a white underbelly and all bullhead the same color but with a yellowish underbelly.

If you caught them all in a channel, it doesn't make them all channel catfish.

Out here in the land of fruits and nuts, they sell honeysuckle and morning glory. I planted honeysuckle in a planter with a homemade 10' teak trellis and I use it for insulation on a west wall of my house, it's over 2' thick and 20 years old, I have to trim it every 2 weeks, It works great as insulation though. The wall in our MBR in the summer got so hot you couldn't hold your hand on it, now it's just as cool as the rest of the house. I live 40 miles from the Mojave Desert, it get's a little hot here.

By the way, if you not a fruit or nut you're a vegetable out here...Ha!Ha!Ha!

The purple capped roundup concentrate and a couple of ounces per gallon of water on the main trunk of the honeysuckle will kill it in about a week.

Yes, they have speckles, with a over bite. The Flatheads bite meets. The Appaloosa has a under bite. There is a yellow belly
Catfish that his bite meets. He will clamp down on your finger when you try to remove the hook and you'll have a smashed finger. DM

sass, the purple cap Roundup, is the Super Concentrate= 50.2% glyphosate (the active ingredient). Here it takes 8 ozs. of the same concentrate to the gallon to kill Horehound, Prickly Pear, Cholla, Cat Claw and Bear grass. Rattle weed and Wooly Loco take the dose you recommend. I've not used it on Honey Suckle. It's a shrub that holds the soil, gives shade and food. Heck,
I like to chew the flowers. They taste like honey. It is invasive. You must water yours a lot. I want to post about my 110. I'll
do it in the next post. DM

You can see ^ the trail of my coarse diamond on the edge bevel at the right. Then in the center and left you can see a small micro bevel. Going to the fine plate you can notice the edge is starting to take on a smoother bevel left and right of center.
Notice no burrs can be seen. I sharpen freehand and remove them on the last stone.
We have 22 Cornish meat birds and this is the knife I'll use to process them. They are now weighing 6.3- 7.3 lbs.. I doubt this steel can process all of them. We'll see in June. I'll not push the knife through bones. I'll use my Estwing hatchet for that type cutting. DM
