Just wondering about the fastest AO you guys have seen... the fastest for me was definetely the Protech Ciabatta, faster than some autos ive seen

My Camillus Robos (Heat & Blaze) were very quick out of the box, and with a clean, polish, and lube job, are crazy fast. IMO, the design is also one of the strongest and most durable.

Beckerhead

It's not my favorite knife but the CRKT Hissatsu Folder blasts out pretty fast. The Nitrous Stryker 913D2 is pretty fast too.

The fastest A/O I have ever seen is on the Kershaw Leek series.

+1 on the Leek. I tweaked a Shallot and it seems to be faster than my Leek. Except for the 1600BG, the boron carbide coating makes it a rocket!

I have a "peach" torsion bar in my shallot. I would say it has as much recoil as my ZT automatic (610ST) It's just scary. My boron and gold leek also has plenty of "oomph" as well as my rainbow leek. I have a franken OD/black bladed blur that I lubed up with mineral oil, and that's a rocket too.

I've played with other A/O's such as Benchmade, Sog, etc, and Kershaw is absolutely the fastest.

Speed is not really a measure of anything except-speed. It really isn't important how fast a knife opens, just how reliably it opens. In fact, overspeed can cause you to lose your hold on the knife.

My benchmade 672 is faster than any other knife I have held. It almost jumped out of my hand on the first open, but after 3 years I am more than used to it.

Have to warn someone else that is opening it for the first time.

My new Benchmade Mini-Barrage is quicker (and smoother) than my Leek by a fair margin. No flipper, but it doesn't need one, since the thumbstuds are actually useful (unlike the Leek, IMO). It's a little... enthusiastic, but not in a bad way. Might surprise you a bit the first time it opens, though.

I have a scallion that i got back in '04... i let it sit for awhile after getting some other knives, when i put it back in my rotation the speed assist no longer worked, it might just need to be tightened up but i don't have the right tool to do it

The Benchmade Mini-Barrage is pretty fast. I also like the fact that the action is started with the thumb stud instead of a flipper. I have not had a chance to play with the full size barrage, if you are looking for as assisted open knife I would definately check it out.

I agree, the Mini-Barrage is plenty fast. It reminds me of the Axis Auto.
