Fastest Assisted Openers

Kershaw, Kershaw, Kershaw... Did I mention Kershaw? Anything Onion A/O rockets out of the handle.

Benchmade's Nitrous Stryker is the fastest AO I've had.
Have got many Kershaw AO and ZT. Still BM is a bit faster. Also, the Nitrous system seems way more reliable. My Leek's AO spring broke a while ago.

I have a scallion that i got back in '04... i let it sit for awhile after getting some other knives, when i put it back in my rotation the speed assist no longer worked, it might just need to be tightened up but i don't have the right tool to do it

Nathan,
The Scallion takes a T9 torx for the pivot and a T6 for the handle. You can get one of these at Home Depot http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...3&productId=100087664&N=10000003+90401+503101
If you both want new torsion bars for Kershaw AO just e-mail them here and they will send out new ones within 10 days. http://www.kershawknives.com/contactus.php
You can also call them at 800-325-2891 but the E-mail is easier to transfer info.

I agree, the Stryker is the hardest hitting AO I have ever handled. The old Camillis Heats were good and strong too.

I've had the B/M "Nitrous" system in a Blitz and I thought it was a well made type of AO, it still had to be kicked with your thumb a lot futher than my Kershaw Ti Bump.
All you have to do with this little beauty is press your index finger across the back flipper and it springs open, as fast or faster than most autos.

I still think that's the most beautiful knife that Kershaw has ever made.

the benchmade apparition is my hardest firing AO. i have the original one, not the g10 one.

video i found on youtube, you can see how it fires, extremely underrated knife, and you can easily disable the AO if you want by removing the bar, it becomes a very smooth manual knife.

ive handled many a switchblade and AO and have yet to find one as fast as my 1660cktst Leek, kershaw makes a grade A AO ive never yet seen a faster knife (cept my 555HG minigrip with a little flick of the wrist:D)

I love the Leek with the spider. I want one! What's it called/part number?

Thanks,

gary

It's not my favorite knife but the CRKT Hissatsu Folder blasts out pretty fast. The Nitrous Stryker 913D2 is pretty fast too.

+1

The Hissatsu is really fast for an AO. Feels like an auto; noticeably faster than the leek imho.

I'd also say the CRKT Hissatsu.
It opens with truly amazing speed & very powerfully.

To me, it's faster than any of the following:

Benchmade 913D2 Nitrous Stryker
Kershaw Leek (S30V)
Kershaw Leek (regular)
Kershaw Spec Bump (& Speed Bump)
Camillus Heat
Camillus Blaze
Buck Tempest (154CM)
CRKT M4
CRKT My Tighe

Benchmade Nitrus is a rocket. Their Optimizer is hold on for your life fast and powerful once you get it going. I have many Kershaws, their knives are quick. The Nitrus & Optimizer are pure power. I can only judge by my experience. Some of you have experiance with some I have not used and that's only a few on this thread. Some of you say a few knives are quicker. I can't wait to try them.

The laws of physics apply when comparing opening speeds. Shorter blades will require less energy to open than long ones = less angular momentum. Ditto for light vs heavy blades. Because of this, knives like the Leek can open very fast. To get a longer or heavier AO to open as quickly will require a much stronger spring, which is not always practicable.

To me, the value of an AO isn't the speed but the reduced effort in opening and also the reassurance that the blade will open fully and lock without having a too loose pivot - especially relevant for some of the larger folders I've used.

If opening speed is such an issue then you'd be better off with a 'Waved' Emerson or something like the CS TiLite that opens on the draw

I have a Leek with aluminum scales and a liner lock and it opens noticeably quicker than the framelock Random Leek and Composite Blade Leek I have. I can't tell the difference between it and my Benchmade HK Auto.

I woud have to say my CUDA Dominator is currently the fastest assisted opener in my collection.
