FAT ASH-1 Love

Thank you so much for the details!!! Yes he does have a good memory!!! I agree with you! I really like the ASH handle and debating on a custom shop SFNO or a NMSFNO, however I did discover a SFNO on ebay tonight that has the same scale type as my fat ash where is thin and not contoured... I am digging the pics and I want to see if the custom shop can make me one :)
Andy has a good memory! Here is some info from the original ASH1 ad for the CG version:

The ASH1 has been immensely popular. I like the ASH1 handle design better than the handle on the SFNO, but that is just my opinion. Thanks for the photos, and keep enjoying that awesome knife!

I cleared several trails and outside of the tree trunk I went through in the pics the ash would go through 1-2" limbs in one swing, anything over that took a little more.
Fat Steel Hearts rule!!!
If the limbs get too big, you can always grab it's big brother the Fat Fusion Steel Heart. Jerry and crew just made this one a few weeks ago and mailed it to me...

Only two last year, Andy? I might be catching up with you. Although with each purchase - there are less collection spots to fill. Unless one merely wants to spend buckets of cash on duplicate's. Just for high numbers of a particular model of Busse, or other brand of blades. Yes, they exist! I also spent some funds on two "Mystery Grab Bags"...and I only have so much in my knife buying budget. I still need to clothe and feed myself! Current ASH1 total here? Lucky number 13. Happy New Year all.

I have an INFI version of the big brother :) I have a HHFSH!!! I don't have a sheath for it use so it only gets use around the house but once I have a sheath it will get some more use! I thought about trying to get my hands on a the .32 FSH in INFI but that may be too thick. Not sure, but so far I have been happy with the .27 HHFSH.

I hear ya man!
These Steel Hearts are awesome, I love the design.

Yep, I agree, they are awesome!

Hi guys. I know this topic is old, but I still want to ask for your advice. Which knife do you think is stronger — the FFBM or the Ash-1 Fatty? I want to buy a really thick and tough Busse, but I like the FFBM. I understand that its geometry is better, but it’s too long and too heavy. Still, if the strength difference is really significant, I’ll go for the FFBM. What do you think? Thanks in advance.

I don't have either, but Jerry just announced the Magnum Outlaw for sale this Friday. It's fat and looks awesome

🤘🍺🤘

Between those two....strength isn't the question you should be asking...both will survive whatever can be thrown at a knife and not notice it.

Yes, I agree, absolutely. But I’ve seen tests of the FFBM by Noss, and they’re impressive. I’ve also tested my Bussy knives many times myself. I tested the HellRazor — I chopped rebar with that knife. So I’m just a bit bothered by the grinds that start from the spine on the ASH1 model. That’s why I asked the question. Still, a shorter blade would be much more convenient for hiking, because I really wouldn’t want to carry almost a kilogram and nearly 17 inches of FFBM in the woods.

First off - no you didn’t. Pics or it didn’t happen. Second - don’t ever, EVER worry about a Busse being full flat ground. That just makes em cut better. That’s my favorite grind. I’m not easy on my knives (some say downright reckless) and I haven’t broken one yet.

As soon as I heard about the lifetime warranty I put my very first Busse to the test. It was a Basic 9 and they’re full flat ground. I used that sumbitch as everything from a tent stake to a jack handle to a splitting maul, wood chopper, you get the gist. Chopped into concrete for a few minutes one time trying to cut out a fence post I didn’t know was countersunk. Shrugged all of it off.

The man said they’re guaranteed forever, so I took him at his word. I used it without a care in the world. I straight up tried to go hard as I could on it a few times and it laughed at me. It would bow going through some knotty wood and come out the other side just fine.

See all those round dents on the spine? Ball peen hammer.

Still beautiful after well over 20 years, in all her full flat ground glory.

And so sharp she’ll even dice onions.

I’d take a full flat ground Busse over saber ground all days of the week and twice on Sundays.

Hoooooweeee, you know that thing has the best sheath in all the land! That’s badass, but what’s the story behind it, Al?

Oh yes, I know this knife… All the Busse knives made from INFI steel are super strong. I just always want to buy the most durable things. And I’ve tested my knives a lot too — I’ve chopped rebar almost 10 mm thick with them. So yes, I know these knives are extremely tough.

I have both ash1 and hr2, can snap a picture side by side. The difference in thickness behind the edge isn't that much at all.

If I were you I'd definitely go for the new MO offering, as ASH1 now commands a hefty collector's premium. And length wise, it might be the golden middle between the ash and bm.

Yes, everything I found on eBay costs at least $1,250. Today I bought a new MO satin-finished knife on the Busse website for $600. And yes, I think it’s perfect. But I do like the Ash1 — it has an excellent blade length.
