Fat old man chops 2x4 in 6 chops!

Is there a standard type of 2x4 used in these comps.? The type of wood being chopped might make a difference.

Can someone tell me what a competition legal blade is? Am I right to think you can't take any standard blade then sharpen it up to a whisper thin edge then start competing? Also is re-profiling allowed ie taking a FFBM and putting a convex edge on it?

There is a standard or at least guidlines. I think it has been outlined in a few threads around here. I am sure someone will post it shortly though.

i wish i had a the know how to post videos...lol, yesterday thinking of this thread i went out to my garage and using my beater fbm i chopped a 2x4 in half with seven hits, didnt seem all that hard, i know my ak could do it in less, but that isnt what this thread starter was talking about...... so even with a not so sharp (but thinner than factory edge) i was able to do what this guy did pluss one stroke..... seems to disolve the concearns that the thread starter has tried to raise....

VTW: That's awesome. I bet you could beat the 6 chop mark if it was sharpened up. Let us know.

Start with a zinc coated pipe or cinder block!! Don't EVEN!! You don't want to hurt those two targets.

" Rules:

Wrist thong with keeper required. A spring loaded cord lock (keeper) is required.

The measurements for the ABS test knife are applied here:

Overall length 15 inches,
Blade length ten (10) inches,
Width two (2) inches.

Judges have the option to not allow any knife that they feel is unsafe for any reason. Judge’s decision is final.

Sharp edges only, no serrations.

Eye protection is required."

Cut an inch an a half off a BM's butt... and have at it. :D

That blade looked looked like it had quite an edge on it. I think he chopped that 2X4 in half holding it in his free hand? The vid quit on me half way through and won't reload. Nice edge, at any rate.

I think you could find a 2 x 4 grained 'just right' at HD or Lowes and do it as shown. Also, is there no weight limit on the blade specs? Browing's claims that their knife could do everything a hatchet could do is one thing; but for how long? Working a long knife and a hatchet on the same job are two different things to me. A hatchet you are working a lever, with the long knife that is diminished by the weight being in the blade through to the handle so less impact at the tip....or am I wrong?
