Favorite 5" Blade?

That is my attempt at making a knife. I made it for myself last fall. Hopefully I will get back on the horse soon and make a few more.

Thanks for the kind words.

Just a bit partial to the Scrapper 5;

Don't know why I do that!!

Some really nice knives mentioned here! Just for fun I'll go the other way and throw in the Old Hickory Boning knife, though it is a bit longer. For the price you would be able to play with the shape to get what you want before ordering something nicer from one of the makers already mentioned.

Also, a bunch of people have already mentioned Morakniv. I'll specifically note the Mora 731 (carbon) or 748 (ss), although they are also a bit longer than what you asked for. They should be laterally stiff for their blade thickness owing to the scandi grind - and they are definitely narrow.

Would like to hear what you decide on...

As much as I love my expensive steel, those are really hard to argue with as far as functionality and bang for the buck!

You'd be dropping 3/4 inch in length (4.25 in blade); but the blade is CPM3V at 0.156" thick

*Edit* Just realized how late I am to this party <facepalm>

Love my Claudio CAS.....his craftsmanship is second to none!! However, Matt Bailey makes a great blade in san mai as well...though it is in between the 4 and 5" mark.

I have thought about trying the Old Hickory and went looking for one. For some reason they have full tangs on the models I don't want and half tang on those I do. I have a couple others in mind but I'm waiting on the manufacture to get them into full production and available to the public. So far there are only a hand full of them made for testing and I have no clue how much they are going to charge.

I'm more likely to order one of their fox river designs and for go the 5" blade. :)

I have been looking at a couple of 5" blades that I like. Both would make great hunting knives, but neither are built all that strong. I'm not looking for some monster blade that is 2" wide and 1/4" thick, just a solid narrow thin blade strong enough to do whatever may be asked. Anyone have a favorite 5" blade that they want to share information on or have pictures to post?

Thanks.

Buck Pathfinder is just about perfect. I have used it over the years and it really is a great classic woods blade:

Its cheap too... You can find it anywhere for about $45

bark river aurora, 3v it's nimble long not to heavy, great thin convex edge. It's a knife I can't seem to get rid of. Just a good all-around camping or bushcraft knive. I actually want another one in g10.
