My favorite 5" knife is the Survive Knives GSO 5 . It's sharp enough to make fine feather sticks but at 3/16" thick it's strong enough to handle any task .
If you really want a thinner blade I'd say the Ontario Black Bird SK 5 with it's 1/8" thick 5" long blade would be just what you're looking for . Check it out .

Becker BK2....
I actually prefer a knife with a blade longer than 4.5".
This is my most recent carry knife.

The blade is closer to 5.5", but I am very confident in it's ability.
With the handle to blade angle I also find it very useful for any task, especially carving and slicing.
A Marttiini Visatake integral.

That one may be thin, but it is way to wide to be useful for my task.
I've read through a few times and unless I keep missing it, you don't say what your "task" is. You've offered some parameters, but the first response to any "which knife should I buy" thread around here is usually "for what?".Not even close to being useful for my task.
It is a great beater though. I played with the 17 for awhile and that was as big as I wanted to go. I ended up giving it to my daughter.
