So in another thread someone mentioned that we should have our own beer thread and I thought I'd start it since I'm drinking tonight.

Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout

This is the thickest, chewiest, tastiest, and strongest of all the stouts I've ever had. It's the #29 beer in the world and punches you in the gut with 13% alcohol by volume. It coats the inside of your mouth with a sticky black film of awesome, and it smells like an expensive bottle of pricey bourbon. After swallowing the dark flavor of win, it fills your sinuses with a toasty bourbon burn of doom. This beer is not for the weak of heart or stomach, and it's flavor is more complex than a woman's emotions. I assure you if you should try one of these, you will know I'm not exaggerating.

Wow! It looks great in the glass. I'm thinking it is a little bit old but, big dark beers handle age a lot better then lighter beers most of the time. Did you get that from Goose Island or Sam's? I'd like to try a bottle of that! Favorite Beers! I have tasted a bunch of good ones over the years and that is a really hard decision! I think I would have to say that my all time favorite was Brewmasters Dark, from Kenosha, WI, which is no longer open unfortunatly. There are a lot of good beers being brewed in a lot of good brewpubs and microbreweries now days, so nobody has to drink the cheap no taste beers of the big national breweries anymore. I like Pale Ales, Porters and Stouts most of all I guess but, it is a hard decision! I visited 26 different brewpubs and micros on my way out to and back from Cortez, Colorado in July. I didn't have one bad beer out of the whole bunch. I got to eat some really fantastic meals in some of those places too!

Frontier, thats a picture I grabbed off the internet, I got mine from a local Specialty import place. As for local stuff and another favorite of the moment, Id have to say Great Lakes Brewery's Octoberfest.

I like Dogfish head 30 and 60 min IPA, they have lots of good beers. Three Floyd's Scottish Ale I remember being pretty good too. Also, New Belgium makes some good stuff too!

When I have money - Pilsner Urquell, Hoegaarden Wheat Ale, Negra Modelo. When I'm broke - Miller High Life. Lately I've been drinking a lot of the Miller.

Dogfish Head 90 min. IPA is good as well.

If any of you are ever near Louisville, Bluegrass Brewing Company's Bourbon Barrel Stout is one to check out. Like the OP's suggestion, it too has a bite of bourbon flavor at the end. Swing by one of BBC's restaurants and have it on tap.

Never had that one. I really didn't care for the Raison D'etre by them, just had an awful after taste IMO.

I only get the small brewery stuff at holidays since my family members buy it:D. I usually only buy vodka since a $14 fifth is much better quality than a $14 case of domestic beer IMO.

I must say that I have been really impressed by the American microbrews I have tried. I look forward to having the opportunity to try some more next time I'm down south.

Once upon a time, you would rarely catch me drinking anything other than Guinness, and I still think it's an outstanding beverage.

But lately, I have been all about supporting my local microbrews. Two that are of particular interest are

Mill St. Tankhouse

Like traditional pale ales, Tankhouse Ale has a deep copper-red colour. We use five different malts to produce a complex malty texture. The most dominant character of our Pale Ale is the hop. The spicy Cascades is used to give an assertive hop flavour, aroma and bitterness to our ale. The result is a satisfying and complex-tasting beer. Our brewmaster developed this recipe 20 years ago and it has remained his favorite drink of choice.

Tasting Notes: Orange-tinged dark amber; aroma shows rich fruity hoppiness (cherry, plum), plus woody notes, and lightly smokey crystal malts.

Suggested food pairing: mussels, fish & chips, curried dishes.

And Beau's Lug Tread Lagered Ale

Available year-round, LUG•TREAD LAGERED ALE is our award winning, flagship beer. In developing it, we charged Matt (Matthew O’Hara, our brewmaster) with hand-crafting a beer with a unique style and history, that could be made naturally with certified organic malts & hops and that would be incredibly tasty and very drinkable. We brew this tasty golden ale and then lager it to create a beer like nothing else in Ontario.

Tasting Notes
Golden-hued, crisp and finely balanced, LUG•TREAD is our tribute to the classic beer of Cologne, Germany. LUG•TREAD is top fermented (like an ale) and then cold aged (like a lager) for a lengthy period. This gives our beer some light ale notes complemented by a lager-like crispness. LUG•TREAD displays interwoven malt and hop flavours, subtle fruit flavours and a crisp, lingering finish.

Tankhouse, which is pretty much brewed down the street from me, is my definition of a crisp, red ale. It has a delightful spicy finish, and goes down particularly well after a long hike.

Beau's is not yet widely available, so I have to enjoy it in and around Ottawa, but it's always a treat to get ahold of a pack.

If you ever get the chance to check out either of these brews (or anything else from these breweries), don't hesitate!

All the best,

- Mike

Lagunitas IPA and Lagunitas Maximus are like religion to me. They're just the most perfect, dialed in, clean IPAs I've ever had. I've also been enjoying Widmer's Deadlift lately. Another favorite of mine (and a beer John Steinbeck wrote was the best beer in the world) is Bohemia. And if you're willing to try something different, a good proper lambic is Dogfish Head's Festina Peche -- a sour beer that is really fun to give to friends to see their reaction.

Pretty much anything from Eel River is good, particularly thier pale ale and the California Blonde. But everyday beer is Miller High Life Light. Champagne of beers baby!
