Favorite Beers!

Hi Everyone! Around the holidays I picked up several very good beers. I stopped into the Crown Brewery in Crown Point, IN for the first time, for a more than quick visit. Unfortunately most of the time, I am on some sort of time and driving constraints. On this trip I was by myself, with my little dog, so couldn't do much drinking or spend much time any place, and didn't have a lot of time anyway. I did get a few labels and coasters from them there to add to my collections. Everyone I talked to there were very friendly and hospitable. I bought a couple of 22 oz. bottles from them to take home and be able to try in the comfort of my own place. The Crown Brown and the Special Forces I.P.A. were both really good! Nice beers with some body and very hoppy. I was impressed. After I left there, I actually got to follow another person from there, up to the Three Floyd's Brewery in Munster, IN. I would have never found this place on my own. I sat down at the bar and ordered an Alfa King Pale Ale, WOW, this was good. I could have sat there for a good half hour and just smelled this beer, the first drink and you know you have a real beer in your hands. The flavor was heavenly. It was an intense experience, then after I had drank it and left there, I would belch a bit of it every so often, and it was like drinking it all over again. I would have liked to have had a little bit of time and a driver, so I could have drank a few of these. I was just impressed as I could be with this beer but, unfortunately the people that worked at the bar and brewery were not very friendly people at all. Most of them were actually down right unfriendly. That always messes up finding a really special beer.

This year Leinenkugel put out there "Big Eddy" Russian Imperial Stout again. I guess it has not been available for some time now. I'm not all that impressed with Leinenkugel's beers as a whole but, they have always put out a good Bock, and this Big Eddy's is really good Stout! It is not on the cheap side though. I also checked out a new Brewery called the Southern Tier Brewing Co. out of New York, the beer is called part of the Black Water Series. It is Imperial Oat Oatmeal Stout, and it was excellent! Again, not on the cheap side but, sometimes it is worth paying a few cents extra for the experience of a better and tasteful beer! These two beers I picked up at Woodman's Grocery store in our area, and they have a very well stocked micro and brewpub sellection of beers in their stores.

Finally got to go and check out the new brewpub in Galena, IL a couple of days after Christmas and had lunch and a couple of pretty good beers with my adoptive father there. They are making five styles and all are good but, as usual, if you want to be able to check out all types start out on the light colors and flavors and build up to the dark. I generally go to the middle and work to the darks. I really loved the Uly's Dark Chocolate Oatmeal Stout. I was able to add a few little goodies from their hospitality center to my collection too.

I am always looking for labels, coasters, bottle crowns (caps), and business cards along with a lot of other stuff from these kinds of places. I am also always looking for Shiner Coasters from Spoetzl Brewing Company, in Texas, and Rolling Rock Coasters from Latrobe Brewing Company in Pennsylvania, if any of you have any or can help me get some of them. I am always interested in buying anywhere from 1-100 of each coaster or bottle labels, if they are reasonably priced, just contact me to let me know.

If you guys get a chance to check out any of these beers, let me know what you all think of them!

Take care and stay safe,

So in another thread someone mentioned that we should have our own beer thread and I thought I'd start it since I'm drinking tonight.

Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout

This is the thickest, chewiest, tastiest, and strongest of all the stouts I've ever had. It's the #29 beer in the world and punches you in the gut with 13% alcohol by volume. It coats the inside of your mouth with a sticky black film of awesome, and it smells like an expensive bottle of pricey bourbon. After swallowing the dark flavor of win, it fills your sinuses with a toasty bourbon burn of doom. This beer is not for the weak of heart or stomach, and it's flavor is more complex than a woman's emotions. I assure you if you should try one of these, you will know I'm not exaggerating.

From their site:

Brewmasters Notes:
A heavily-hopped imperial stout, Night Stalker is a heavyweight of a beer. It delivers a formidable punch of hops and rich roasted malt notes to the nose in a silky body that's as dark as night.

Recipe Information:
Style: Imperial Stout
Alcohol by Volume: 11.7%
International Bitterness Units: 60
Color: Midnight
Hops: Mt Hood, Simcoe
Malts: 2-Row, Munich, Chocolate, Caramel, Roasted Barley, De-Bittered Black

I find Night Stalker to be a superior brew. To my taste the Bourbon in Bourbon County Stout get's in the beers way.

If you are in the Chicago area, you should also check out Three Floyd's Brewery in Munster Indiana. They brew 5 beers all rated in the top 100 beers in the world.

Also, not far from Chicago, is Founders Brewery. They brew Kentucky Breakfast Stout, rated number 4 in the world.

I am also very fond of Surley Brewing's Darkness. Wow.

I hope this doesn't break any rules but check out the list of top brews here:

Gee, imagine making a beer post as my first post on a knife forum! Hey,

I have not had the pleasure of trying either one of these beers but, I have to say that Kalamazoo Brewing Co. is one of the best in the county. The "Nugget Nectar" sounds pretty interesting. I'll have to look for that one in my local Woodmans' store.

Sippin' on some Firestone Walker "Double Jack" (double IPA) beer. WOW...this stuff is incredibly balanced and worth every penny.....

If you like a beer with tons of flavor give innis&gunn Indian pale ale it's pricey but probably the best beer I've ever had

Last weekend, while taking my son to Ohio State for a campus tour, I picked up a few local brews in Columbus, Ohio.

One was the Columbus Brewing IPA. This stuff is outstanding. Seriously one of the better IPA offerings out there today....and at a very reasonable price.

Also picked up some "DORIS" The Destroyer (Double Oatmeal Russian Imperial Stout) from Hoppin' Frog Brewery (Akron, Ohio). This is one of my favorite breweries and their stuff is top notch and very tasty. Gonna crack this one open tonight..

Lots of good taste in here. John it seems all the knife nuts with exceptional taste buy your knives. Recently I tried Youngs Double Chocolate Stout and it was surprisingly good, actually good enough to be one of my new favorites. Any one else try different chocolate stouts?

I just had one on Valentine's Day. It was a chocolate Imperial stout, the brewery escapes me now but I will find out. There's an excellent pub in our downtown with well over 200 brews and they had it on tap. VERY VERY chocolatey, one of the only beers that I've ever had that I would call a desert beer. Followed it with a Guinness and it tasted like water.
