Favorite Budget Knives of the Past Year?

I like the looks of this sub-$40 manual flipper on bearings from Kershaw, but haven't gotten mine yet:

I got it. It's good.

May have the best clip ever. I know it's slightly crazy to mention the clip before anything else about the knife but it's that good: easy on, easy off, grippy, almost no hotspots.

Cheap steel. VERY good looking for $40. Decent flip. Decent size.

This could be a real favorite for EDC if people take notice.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions so far, I will look through them more thoroughly after work.

Marcinek is correct, though, I was just looking for stuff I missed over the past 12 months or so. Like many of you, I appreciate a good SAK.

:) Here is one that may or may not be "new," but I have only just come across it in the last couple months...it seems under the radar...but it is a two handed opener....its the Cognet Vendetta from the Douk Douk folks, carried by supporting retailer @FortyTwoBlades

Awful sexy and under 50 bucks.

Not a new knife I don't think, but new to me. Byrd Meadowlark 2. I was blown away by the 8Cr13MoV HT. It holds an edge as well as some very high end steels and it's incredibly easy to sharpen. I went a bought a few more after figuring that out. Really well made too for a $20-ish knife! Amazing deal!

I have purchased a number of budget knives lately. Of all of them my favorite is this small Kubey flipper in D2 for only $16.99. This clip isn't so great, and it's not US made, but holds a sharp edge for a long time for such an inexpensive knife. The action is nice and smooth with ball bearings as well, and it has G10 scales.

Spyderco Tenacious- High quality for price point
Ruike P121-B- Decent steel, smooth action, excellent fit and finish.
Ontario Rat 1- Decent fit and finish, good blade steel.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Bestech Warwolf D2 with G-10 handle. Silly name for a knife, but really well made with outstanding flipping action at a very reasonable price. I only have one knife that has a smoother fall shut closing and it cost me seven times as much.

That's actually a pretty knife and unexpected steel at that price.

I haven't bought many budget knives in the last year, with the exception of an excessive pile of Victorinox. There are enough nice budget knives to really clog up the living space.

But new to the US this year on their website (mind the qualifiers), the Victorinox Bantom Alox. Very thin and light weight.

I picked up a NIB Steel Will Cutjack for $23.05. Everything seems to check out. Unlike what some reviews say, it has a fine flipping action. Certainly better than some CRKT, which gets noted for their budget flipper quality. Reminds me of the Ferrum Forge Gent. Not as good, but not far behind.

Just outside the price and time range, I do like the Kizer Vanguard Begleiter.

Those have been around for several years. At ~$20 not terrible at all though.

I tink the Kershaw Nura 3.5 is a great fripper knife for the price with it's ball bearings and other features. That's why I posted it. I have given several away to friends and relatives who were not real experienced knife users, and they were very happy with the gift.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. You've sparked some interest in older knives too, like the Nura and the RAT-1. Now I may have to invest in old and new. :P

My Tenacious was always my best budget folder until I got my Rat 1 with a d2 blade.

I’ll cast another vote for the Kershaw Nura. Mine has good solid lock-up, a perfectly centered blade and no vertical or horizontal blade play. I haven’t used or sharpened it yet so I can’t comment on ease of sharpening or edge retention. It doesn’t flip with the ease or speed of my ZT 0450, but a minor wrist flick when deploying the blade opens it with authority. For >$20, I can’t complain about this one.

Kershaw Leek, 14c28n, 3", the absolute most slicy profile of any blade ... and it's usually on sale for $50 - it's the best value in existence imho
