I agree, the wood handles are more the traditional woodcarver's handle shape.
Smooth, warm, tapered towards the ends, and full in the middle.
Great for varied grips when woodworking...

I just received a Mora 946 from Bens Backwoods.

I read many different threads and read much about these knives before ordering. I'm very pleased with the knife and will soon order another model.

Mine is a close call between the erickson 510

but I love this one, Kellam's all purpose knife, even more:

That photo takes a little mystery away.
Has anyone ever had a handle come loose?

The 106 easily my favorite. #2 handle with a nimble little laminated blade.

great blade (a little heftier than the 840), finger guard, and just a few minutes I can change it into a 510.

Can't beat it for the money.

I just ordered a 511 and 911 today.
Of the two, I liked the LOOK of the 911 more (haven't got 'em yet), but appreciated the amount of talk up the 510 gets from survivalists.
Got the 511 cause I'm prone to cutting myself...
Made sure that i got the KJ versions as the infamous Xray shows the difference in tang length pretty well.

I also found this review helpful. It includes magnets to show tang length on a 711g.

I'm beginning to think that I should have just spent $20 on a Mora and Tramontina, and the majority or the actual cash I have spent on knives should have been in good slipjoints for EDC (GEC Tidioute!).

I voted 711, very good and available at an extremely low price, even for a mora, here.
I use a Clipper a lot, but the sheaths for those simply is not good enough, fortunately I make my own leather sheaths for them. The knife on my belt now is a stainless, the 746, in a leather sheath. I find its handle a bit short in some grips, the pinky is sometimes left resting on the rear corner, but with little danger of slipping.

For carbon, I like the Clipper. I've never been a fan of stainless. However, last year I bought the new Allround in stainless which is slightly more robust version of the Clipper; I wanted it for my boating life jacket, no rust worries. And then I bought a 2000. Both came razor sharp. I luv em.

The Allround has a greatly improved sheath over the regular Clipper sheath; and of course it will work for both knives.

I haven't voted in this thread yet. I'm just getting started with this lineup, and first on the list is the Martiini 571. I've been using it a while, and it's starting to take on a nice patina. Great little blade and very handy. Next up is the venerable 510.

While I`m here I can ask you about peoples experience with those clipper sheaths. In my experience the little "click thing" that keep the knife in the sheath wears out relatively fast, and the knife becomes loose in the sheath.
Anoying:eek:
The knife itself is immensely much better than it looks to be.
Other mora sheaths fortunately tend to last much longer.

Well, you're right. I've modified mine with a glued in leather insert. The sheath on the Allround is much better, and will work for both the Clipper and the Allround. Of course the downside is that you have to buy the whole Allround package first. Too bad they can't just sell the sheath separately.

Of course, there are other options to the standard sheath.

Best,

I really like the #137 that comes with laminated carbon steel, an unfinished wood handle, and a leather sheath.

I like a bunch of 'em...

But I tend to gravitate more toward the 510s and Clippers (and chopped 511-Gs).

Well that's true of course, I do have a custom Kydex sheath for my Clipper (which fits them all, I have several) but I think they should all come with a good sheath in the first place...like the Allround. :D
