Favorite cheap beater knife?

I literally beat on this one at work as an experiment, trying to hurt it. I used it to cut plastic neatly by beating the spine with a plastic hammer. Took a lickin' and kept on tickin' for a couple years till I finally got careless and held it at a bad angle doing so, bending the spring.

Took it apart, bent it back, and repinned it with some groove pins laying around. Doesn't lock up securely now but I still use it as a beater.

Folder a SAK tinker, fixed and a Gerber Strongarm has become my new favourite "beater" knife although I might even buy a second one as for the money it's imo a really decent knife.

Mine that I make are my Favorites.....

This one, is my edc. I like carrying and using a long blade. It's 5.5" long blade, 9.75" overall.

Even with such a thin, Hard, HSS M2 blade (.062") it's pretty tough...... This picture was taken last year.
I crawled out on the lake on my belly wanting to inspect Early ice. I stabbed this blade through over Four Inches of ice making a hole big enough for me to stick my fist into.

I'm happy with This steel.

I have a few of these.

Barman1 Barman1 I picked up one of the Begleiter XL's and like it, but the button for the button lock sticks out too much and is right where my thumb hits it causing it to unlock frequently. Your button looks like it sticks up a lot less. Did you modify it?

I did.
When I got it it had a bit of lock stick so I installed the black button that was included.
I didn't mind the look of the black button but when I disassembled it a couple of weeks ago for a cleaning I ground off the coating and went a little further I guess.
Has a jeweled look right now, might clean it up a little the next time I take it apart...

20230331_195917.jpg This, my Buck 285. It is a 2012 and I have used it a bunch. Developed a little side to side blade play so I hammered the pivot pin to tighten it up a little. It has a bunch of miles but still runs like a champ and takes a screaming sharp edge.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the Buck 119. Or a Case Soduster, which is my beater knife.

When this thread was started, I was under the impression that it was about knives in the <$50 range. There were a couple of knives that I wanted to post, but felt that they might not be considered "cheap".

That being posted, if you don't necessarily need a "belt" sheath, these two are outstanding examples...

I ordered both with the leather belt sheaths, but usually just carry them in my truck box / behind my truck seat / in a backpack, with just the included plastic "blade cover" sheaths. Admittedly, I have more time with the "240" than with the "200", but have beaten the crap out of both of 'em.

Man, at $68 and $70 respectively...and with 80CrV2 steel...these things would be a bargain at twice the price.
