Favorite Fish

Fresh caught Island Beach State Park Stripers was my favorite as a kid when pops would bring it home, still love it and enjoy catching it. Bluefish is a bit stronger of a fish taste but good still. Summer fluke and kingfish are also pretty good. Getting hungry now.

On a funny note I like sushi as well and my dad was a fisherman but not a sushi fan and called sushi "expensive bait" lol :D

Salmon and Flounder are the best followed by Trout. I never had bluegills, but I went fishing yesterday and caught over 80 of them. During my catch and release there was an older guy next to me that only got a few of them. I ended up giving him five of the biggest one I caught....He loved them and soaks them in vinegar them bakes them.....

Ive always wanted to try panfish but the waters around me are pretty sad condition so I only eat ocean fish I catch. Thats interesting to soak them in vinegar haven't heard of that before but I would still try it

All these sound good, I do the same with Trout at times (with the bacon).A Few of you mentioned Flounder, The only time I had that it was soooo fishy tasting, I didnt like it, Probably prepared wrong I suppose.
If flounder are too gamey for you, don't order bluefish :)

Stripers are good, red snapper (can't catch them here though), winter and summer flounder too.
If you can't grill them, broil them. Put a little bread crumbs, butter and garlic on the top... fine eating.

A wash rag battered and fried would be good...

Down here one of the best table fish in my opinion is sand whiting. Fun little fighters on light tackle. Swallow-tail dart are really good too, and are a lot of fun. But even stuff like tarwine are good. I've pulled in a couple golden trevally and they are good eats as well. there are a few bait-stealer species that everyone throws back, one of which is a puffer, but its almost always size that sends them back, not type.

Walleye is my favorite. I just dip them in egg batter made up of raw eggs whipped up then roll them in some fine crushed up saltine crackers and fry them in a cast iron frying pan.

Next best is perch and crappie and white bass.

favorite sea fish is the pompano, while for tuna, i like bonito (skipjack.) don't know what fuzz with blue fin is all about.

never tasted it but they say dorado is absolutely the tastiest (from the book "Kon-tiki" to contemporary accounts.) what say you?

We catch a lot of dorado, very good eating fish.I like yellow fin much better than bluefin.

Technically a crustacean, I know, but it is my favorite tasty creature from the sea.

Wahoo, dolphin fish, yellow tail snapper, flounder, salmon. All lightly broiled with lemon sauce with a touch of old bay seasoning. Yum!

Freshwater: Perch, trout, bass, and crappie. A very light maple syrup sauce, some lemon juice, lightly broiled or dipped in corn flour and fried.

The important thing is to quickly clean and ice, and don't overcook the fish which is very easy to do.

Here is video about Wahoo cooking:

Amen! And the best part of a male dolphin, like the one in your picture, is the big lump of meat in the forehead over the eyes. Filet that head part and sit enjoy with a cool Corona, etc.

And these dolphin put up a fight that freshwater fisherman can't imagine, jumping all over the place and pulling the rod out of your hands.

Where did you catch him? I know it was not Florida because of the big hills in the background.

I have never eaten boneheads (bonito). The ones we catch in Florida are very bloody and we joke that you have to marinate them in Clorox or 24 hours before cooking. They are great shark bait though.

I wouldn't even know where to start. How do you clean and cook them. There used to be a lot of them on the Florida reefs but they have have been decimated by guys catching them and shipping them to Japan.

just crack them open with a stout knife, scrape the insides, and look for soy sauce. we in the philippines don't have taste buds like the japanese. we toss them on hot coals for maybe a minute, take them out, crack them open, scrape onto a bowl, then add vinegar and onions. good with gin or rum.

Ever fish for sturgeon? Hook into an 8 footer and it'll drag you around the river a few hours. You'll prolly need a change of shorts when it jumps like a tarpon.

I love walleye but I would take winter bluegill or crappie over that any day of the week. I don't know if it's in my head or what but the meat always seems fresher and firmer when caught through the ice... mmmmm, getting excited for ice fishing just thinking about it.

I knew someone would get me on my post. Yes sturgeon, those big cats, alligator gar, muskies can rattle the fillings out of your teeth. But a 40-50 pound dolphin, or a 140-150 pound tarpon, or a 540-550 pound blue marlin jumping in the sun is an awesome and beautiful fish to catch.

What island do you live on? I spent two years there stationed on Luzon in the mountains northwest of Manila. I did a lot of scuba diving and hiking. It is about the most beautiful place I have ever lived.
