Favorite *fixed blade* length for EDC.

I prefer 3.0" - 3.5" blade-length. It's what I generally carry, in the form of Bradford Guardian 3.

I like a full size handle that is in the 4.5"-5" range. Don't need any bigger and any smaller and my pinky starts hanging off and becomes uncomfortable. That usually equates to, I think, a blade in the 3.25"-3.75" range though there are likely exceptions. I have smaller knives but they don't get carried often.

I've always wondered why people usually go by blade size when handle length gives a better idea about how it will fit your hand.

Agreed.

In my mind, Emerson's CQC7 looks like the blade is a little short for the handle but the ergonomics are wonderful.

I think you are right. We should look at handle length first.

Fixed blade CQC7 is better proportioned :D

I'm new to knife making so just trying to judge what people like I've been designing a 3.5-4in blade and a 4.25 handle seems to be the sweet spot so far but I have little girly hands :grumpy:

Ideally close to 3 inches because it will be legal in most areas while still having sufficient size for most edc tasks.

For fixed, a G3 @ 3.5" and a Bark River Aurora @ 4.775" depending on what I'm doing at work.

As long as it's thin and light, I prefer larger blades - 3.5" minimum to 4". I often carry an Otanashi Noh Ken which is 4.5" and wish they'd make more that size, but most seem to top out around 4".

I normally say 3.5-4" but my favorites are the PM2, Manix 2 and Manix 2 XL. I carry a Military occasionally, I almost never carry anything smaller than a PM2.

Ok so about what I figuring up. I like having a full size handle no smaller than 4in. This is what I'm working on now

2.75 to 3.25, and really on the smaller end of that range.

I always have a 3.25" or less blade on me. Sometimes bring along a longer one, but rarely use it.

In broad terms, at least 3 inches, but less than 4 inches - with a preferred range of between 3.2 inches and 3.7 inches.
