Favorite Ka-bar?

I have two Kabar 1128's - a wear and a spare. I've cleaned more than a few trout with my first one. I saw one at the Puyallup Antique Show yesterday and the guy was asking 85 bucks for it. I had to laugh.

I was given my FIL's PAL he carried in WWII and gave it to my oldest son.

For heavy bush use I like the kabar camp knife. Built just like the USMC but a better chopper and baton's really well with the full thickness to the tip. It can still be used as a utility blade or hammer with the pommel unlike the kukri. The leather sheath is sturdy.

I love the dozier/kabar folders in all styles, you can't find a better deal with aus-8 and zytel with a clip. I have 5 and gave one to each guy I work with in pest control. They get used hard and if you lose it in a crawlspace or wall void it's not a mood breaker.

The large 1271 fighting knife is my choice over the USMC. The continuous curve of the edge helps with draw cuts and the nylon/leather sheath is a better choice for hunting for wrattling and noise from stick slaps etc, still like the classic however.

The becker necker is one of the only affordable neck knives(carbon not San Mai) I have seen that has a sturdy and functional blade, most are toothpicks. put a good cord wrap on the handle and the sheath will take 10 ft of paracord with the holes at bottom to tie off. If price is not an issue the San Mai looks cool and is more durable.

I think the best Kabar is the original USMC fighter. I don't have one, though am not sure why:

I just got my 9 in Kabar Bowie yesterday. It's my only one so far so it's my favorite. It's a lot of knife for the money. The handle is extremely comfortable and the knife came pretty sharp. A lot sharper than some of my other thick blades. I'm not a fan of the sheath though..gotta find some kydex...love the bowie though...great knife....

i currently have a large heavy bowie in the mail.ive never been so excited(except when i was waiting for my abec 7 bearings for my ambassadeur 5500 c3) i only paid 43 bucks shipped off of amazon. cant wait to cut some stuff up!!!!!!

I inherited an original WW2 Ka-Bar USMC so that is my favorite. However, their Dozier Hunter model is my most used beater. I don't have a clue on how the Taiwanese heat treat AUS8, but the results are rather good.

[Seems nice, but I've never done anything with it other than slice paper to test the edge and then put it away. I liked the idea of having a fixed blade but never had the occasion to use it.[/QUOTE]

No occasion to use it  Have you cut anything. Even if its just going in the kitchen and slaughtering the onion and zucchini zombies. We as knife people always have a use to cut, chop, trim, clean fingernails, pick teeth, open packages, cut plastic ties, use the back and open beer bottles, dig, and just when you think you had all of your fun now you can start cleaning, sharpening and oiling it down for your next zombie invasion.

Yes, I agree. The handle is very comfortable and the knife is amazingly light for its size too. Would not hesitate to use it for extended time in the woods.

My favorite 'daily use in the woods' Ka-bar is the 6" one on the top.

Note my first one, a 7" MK2 variant, didn't come with a leather sheath. Strangely, I don't feel gypped.

For general 'kitchen' use this I find this 5" (similar vintage, suspected by me of being a USN MK1) is also handy. [Yes, that is a wooden butt.]

Here is my original Army Kabar compared to the Navy/USMC type.

Just for fun, here is the Army KaBar with the possible MK1 Kabar above a Cattaraugus 225Q

My old time favorite is the USMC fighting knife and my current favorite is the TDI.

SuperC, did you get that "Army Kabar" issued to you in the Army? Was it actually an Army Kabar? I had no idea such a knife existed, I only thought they made the standard USMC fighting knife, and that the US Army and US Navy editions were just "Me, too!" versions, since they're exactly alike.
