I was wondering what handle material you like on your woods knives. I was talking to the guy at DLT trading, and he said he liked yellow G-10 or micarta, because it showed up in the woods, if you lay the knife down. What handle material do you like? I was talking to him about a yellow handle Kephart barkie.

I like the micartas the best, then the woods, my favorite wood being bamboo, and then stag or bone.

i'm rather fond of wood...light and warm and attractive. i've used this photo alot already, i need to take a new photo...

I am definately a wood guy myself.

If your looking for something that will stand out in the woods incase you drop it; How about blue? I haven't seen anything blue in the forrest lately. I do see yellow and orange in autumn....

I am thinking for my next knife, I will get something with a blue handle.

I'm a sucker for a stacked leather handle..gotta be my #1 favorite!

#2 Wood
#3 Micarta, G-10 and other man mades

As long as the handle stays on the knife, and is fairly comfortable, I'm a pretty happy man! :D

I love Green Canvas Micarta as my all time favorite but I also like my Orange G10 & Yellow G10 Scales as well !

Considering I only have a hatchet left with a stacked leather handle, I gotta agree. I'd put my top two in the same order with my 3rd being Res-C/Rubber/Synthetic type handles with Micarta coming in 4th.

I'm a fan of green canvas micarta and also a big fan of a skeletonized knife.

Wood for looks and micarta or kraton?rubber/Plastic for function. I like the CS and Mora Clipper handles about the best. Something Grippy.:) I like wood ok but hate to scar up really nice wood.

Arctic Birch for wood (Roselli), stacked leather (Marble's), micarta (Bark River), and for sheer utility in cold, slippery conditions, Kraton (Cold Steel, Buck).

Full-tang handles with wood scales and spacers are my favourite, from an aesthetic standpoint. I'm particularly partial to chechen, padauk, and black oak. For a hard-use knife, I like G-10 - not because it is stronger, and certainly not because it is better looking - but because it can be easier to clean when it gets covered in pine sap, fish guts, and mud.

All the best,

- Mike

Durable is good.

I have never lost a knife because I put it down and couldn't find it. I had a couple smallish folders fall out of my pockets, but that's it for loss. So any durable handle material is OK by me. But I kinda like Bryan Breeden's Orange handles. They seem cheerful.

I'm all over the map on this one. I have an orange pathfinder I use a lot, a stag nessie, some micarta, and a lot of wood. I think the wood is my favorite, osage being #1.

Linien Micarda, it feels better on my hands, gives a nice cooler feeling then canvas micarta imo.

I like FRN alot too. I like my handles to feel cool when I gold them.

Birch bark (stacked) is best natural material I've used. It's not popular outside Eurasia and Scandinavia though.
